What IS yoga?

It is an ancient, beautiful, and complex practice, rooted in Indian philosophy. That’s a clear definition, right? The truth is there's no one-size-fits-all definition of yoga. It isn’t simply one thing. It's as diverse as each one of us, and that's the incredible power it holds. It can be gentle or dynamic, quick or extensive, relaxing or challenging—tailored to your own journey and needs. The lists of benefits are long, and we’ll dive deeper into a number of them throughout the month, but spoiler alert: they extend way past just the physical, which is often the one that gets the most media visibility.

Here's another myth buster: Yoga isn't only a solitary practice—it's a bridge between the personal and the communal. It's a space where you can dive into your inner self, yet also connect with a supportive community around you.

And you want to know the real beauty of this practice? Anyone can give yoga a try. You don’t need to be super flexible or experienced. You don’t have to be a certain age or at a certain fitness level. You don’t have to be anything other than what you are. Are you ready to give yoga a try?

Yoga is widely known as a healing practice and has been long called upon as a non-pharmaceutical solution to many health conditions. Often, new yoga practitioners come to the practice to relieve chronic illness, depression, anxiety, and many other ailments, including mental health conditions. At the same time, many may not recognize yoga as an option for mental health support or emotional relief.

Given the heightened challenges we're experiencing in society today, many are wondering what we can really do to support mental health in the United States.

This event brings together leaders from caring professions for a candid conversation on unique and creative approaches to mental health care.

*Join them as they explore cross-sector collaborations and opportunities to remove barriers to accessing effective mental and emotional support.

*This event is an in-person event available for free to the community. Join us at SOULfest on Saturday, October 1st, for this important conversation about yoga and mental health.

If you're following our 💩 saga (which is WAY better than the Twilight Saga) you've made it to week 2️⃣ of 4️⃣.

Last week we talked about your "gut feeling" and how it is a REAL thing! Scroll back to read about your gut's own brain 🧠

Your “gut brain” has a major effect on your p**p probs!

Those millions of nerves that line every inch of your gut communicate directly to your brain through your vagus nerve. Imagine it like a constant conversation. The gut says, “hey, brain, it’s time to get rid of this waste that I’ve been working hard to make.” The brain should get the message via the vagus nerve and say, “cool, let’s start a bowel movement.” This sort of conversation should be overflowing between your gut and your brain.

A world where ALL the brains and guts were always talking would be a beautiful world. BUTT... 💩 pun intended, that's not the real world.

Follow for next weeks saga on what happens when the "gut brain" and the head brain lose contact. It's a sad breakup.

🪷WHY PINK?🪷 Why pink you say?
🪷Psychology of Pink🪷
In color psychology, pink is a sign of hope. It is a positive color inspiring warm and comforting feelings, a sense that everything will be okay.

Pink calms and reassures our emotional energies, alleviating feelings of anger, aggression, resentment, abandonment and neglect. Studies have confirmed that exposure to large amounts of pink can have a calming effect on the nerves and create physical weakness in people. Violent and aggressive prisoners have been successfully calmed by placing them in a pink room for a specified amount of time. Exposure for too long can have the opposite effect.

The color pink puts people in touch with the nurturing side of themselves, through either the need to receive or the need to give, nurturing and TLC (tender loving care!).

Pink can signify good health, being 'in the pink', and success as in 'everything's rosy'.
