On the occasion of the International Women´s Day, which takes place on March 8, the FdLT and the CLV are inviting you to a small workshop in order to get to know the great Hispano-American women in the world of literature, art and painting. In return, you will introduce us to the women who have marked the Lebanese artistic and literary world. Be there on Friday March 18 at 12:30 p.m. Room 506!

"Universal Design of Learning (UDL): Creating an inclusive environment for students with diverse needs"

As part of its "Teaching in Times of Change" training cycle for language teaching, the CLV organized on Saturday February 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. a Zoom training course entitled "Universal Design of Learning (UDL): Creating an inclusive environment for students with diverse needs", moderated by Ms Rosine Zgheib, Head of English Department at the CLV. Addressed to teachers of different languages, at school and at university, this training aimed to identify principles, guidelines, and components of a UDL curriculum, describe teaching practices used to enhance the teaching and learning process in the classroom with diverse learners, consider flexible options for planning a lesson by considering learning barriers and multiple means of engagement, representation, and expression and create a lesson plan that addresses the needs of students in the diverse classroom.

Higher Education Capacity Development Annual Summit with University Partners

The Higher Education Capacity Development (HECD) program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the Education Development Center (EDC), held its annual higher education summit on 20 January 2022 bringing together ten Lebanese partner universities and one U.S. based university. The event welcomed the presence of the U.S. Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Richard Michaels, USAID/Lebanon’s Mission Director Eileen Devitt, and university representatives. The summit was an opportunity to highlight the impact of the program. It featured panel discussions with local and international experts from EDC and Florida State University, university professors, students and career center experts. Dr. Rosine Zgheib Abi Rizk, Head of the English Department of the Faculty of Languages and Translation at USJ, has been actively collaborating with EDC on this project. As a panelist, her discussions focused on job readiness skills, and highlighted the importance of career center enhancements, university-employer engagement, adaptations to curricula, work-based learning, entrepreneurship, and design thinking.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation to the universities, honoring their active role in the project.

Facteurs cognitifs et émotionnels dans l’apprentissage / l’enseignement des langues

Dans le cadre de son cycle de formation "ENSEIGNER EN TEMPS DE CHANGEMENTS" pour l’enseignement des langues, le CLV a organisé le samedi 4 décembre de 9h à 13h une formation sur Zoom intitulée "Facteurs cognitifs et émotionnels dans l’apprentissage / l’enseignement des langues", animée par Mme Carine Salem Moughayar, maître de conférence au CLV. Adressée aux enseignants de différentes langues, à l’école et à l’université, cette formation a visé à analyser les intérêts pédagogiques des facteurs cognitifs dans l’enseignement des langues, mettre en relief les facteurs émotionnels durant l’acte d’apprendre et développer les activités métacognitives et émotionnelles dans les cours de langues.

We wish to inform you that the United Nations will soon hold a Global Language Roster (GLR) examination for short-term English conference interpreters.

What is the GLR?
The lists of freelance interpreters, which were previously administered by the respective four main UN duty stations (New York, Geneva, Nairobi, Vienna), have recently been merged into a Global Language Roster, managed globally. GLR exams are now conducted when needs arise, through cross-duty station collaboration, and successful candidates can be offered short-term opportunities by any of the four duty stations.

Who can apply to this exam?
Candidates should have a perfect command of English, as well as an excellent command of French and Russian or Spanish. Candidates from underrepresented regions may be admitted with only French as a passive language.
More information about the eligibility criteria and how to apply is available from the GLR exam announcement on the UN Careers portal (short URL: bit.ly/GLRexam-ENinterpreters).

When is the deadline for applications?
The publication period for this GLR exam is very brief, the deadline for submitting applications being set at Wednesday, 10 November 2021.

When is the test scheduled and what to expect?
A preselection test will be held on 2 December 2021, and the final test will take place 11 January 2022. The series of tests will be run remotely on Vidcruiter software; candidates will be participating from their own location, and will have to ensure that they are properly equipped to hear and record audio.

How can candidates apply?
Candidates wishing to apply should first create a profile on the UN Careers’ portal, if they don’t have one yet, and make sure they finalize their application and submit it by the deadline.
