Mrs. Cynthia Roukoz, clinical neuropsychologist at the Psychiatry Department's Psychological Assessment Center, presented an interactive and engaging session on "Neuropsychological Screening of Patients with Probable Neurocognitive Disorders" at the 3rd Middle East and North Africa Regional Meeting on Alzheimer’s disease on September 27th, 2019 organized by the LPA and Alzheimer's Association Lebanon.

It is with pride that we share with you the wonderful news about the recognition of six of our department members this week.

During the 6th Annual Clinical Research Open day today, Dr. Olivia Shabb was among the winners of the Best Research Proposal in the Faculty Advancement Program in recognition of an innovative research project; Dr. Wael Shamseddeen received the Best Mentor Award for his outstanding contribution to the Faculty Advancement Program and Dr. Evelyne Baroud was among the winners of a Poster Award in recognition of an outstanding FRRP research poster.

In addition, Ms. Rama Kanj was selected to receive the Dr. Fuad Said Haddad Award in Education, a prestigious award granted to the graduate student in Education who writes the best thesis; and earlier this week, Ms. Sarah Abu Rihan won the Physician’s Award for the Best Inpatient Psychiatry RN and Ms. Anie Belehjan won the Physician's Award for the Best Outpatient Psychiatry RN which they received during the 2019 AUBMC Awards and Recognition ceremony.

Dr. Rasha Mashmoushi and Dr. Marc Barakat from the Psychological Assessment Center alongside Dr. Wael Shamseddeen and Ms. Hala Raad from the division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Program participated in a panel discussion on anti-bullying interventions and policies as part of the Anti-Bullying Campaign organized by FOCUS FUND AT AUBMC and the Department of Psychiatry at AUBMC earlier today.

The psychiatry department celebrates " International Women's Day" to honor our clinician, administrators and researchers for the immense daily contribution they make to our workplace. A warm thank you to the outstanding women in our department.

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Marc Barakat as Director of the Psychological Assessment Center. Dr. Barakat is a certified Clinical Neuropsychologist who holds a PhD in Clinical Neuropsychology from the University of Montreal (2011), a PhD in Neuropsychology from the University of Toulouse (2004) and a diploma in Speech-Langage Pathology from the Lebanese University (1999). He combines a vast clinical experience in the assessment of children, adolescents and adults presenting with various cognitive and psychological disorders , and a solid background in research with a specific interest in memory and sleep. Dr Barakat joined the Department of Psychiatry in June 2018 as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and has been actively involved in the department's clinical and academic activities.

Dr Barakat will replace Dr. Pia Zeinoun who has successfully led the centre since its establishment in 2012. In addition to her full-time role as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology, Dr Zeinoun will remain with the Department of Psychiatry as a Clinical Associate and will provide specialist evaluations for children, adolescents and adults with psychological and neurobehavioral disorders.

Dr. Marc Barakat moderated a session on Stroke and Ms. Rama Kanj presented findings from a study titled "Developing the First Lebanese Picture-Naming Test: Preliminary Study". The conference hosted local and international speakers on the topic of "Neuropsychological Interventions Across the Lifespan".
