Polycystic O***y Syndrome, or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age. The syndrome is named after cysts which form on the ovaries of some women with this condition, though this is not a universal symptom, and not the underlying cause of the disorder.
Women with PCOS may experience irregular menstrual periods, heavy periods, excess hair, acne, pelvic pain, difficulty getting pregnant, and patches of thick, darker, velvety skin. The primary characteristics of this syndrome include: hyperandrogenism, anovulation, insulin resistance, and neuroendocrine disruption.

Gender awareness is the ability to view society from the perspective of gender roles and understand how this has affected women's needs in comparison to that of men. It is also about the knowledge and understanding of the differences in the roles and relations between women and men.
At the recently held NSDC Summer Camp, we had the pleasure on presenting on the impactful topic of gender awareness. This was a really well received session and one with a difference. We also took the opportunity to also discuss the S*xual Reproductive System.

The Youth Advocacy Movement recently hosted a gender based violence session with the women of Castries. This session was to sensitize the audience of the role gender plays in violence and how we can deal with violence in society.
Gender-based and domestic violence can be prevented. Prevention is about changing attitudes, gender roles and stereotypes that make violence against women acceptable, and raising awareness of different types of violence.
