We recently engaged with the brilliant minds of the Bocage and Entrepot Secondary Schools with our Peer Helpers training session. These sessions touched on the areas of s*xual and reproductive health and the healthy choices that they should be making at this stage of their lives. The impact of these sessions will guide them well through their youth.

See you at the next School Tour!

It was truly an honor to facilitate sessions for two batches of new recruits of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force.

The topics around s*xual and reproductive health education gains access to the information, skills and motivation to make healthy decisions about s*x and s*xuality.

This forms part of high quality teaching and learning about a broad variety of topics related to s*x and s*xuality, exploring values and beliefs about those topics and gaining the skills that are needed to navigate relationships and manage one’s own s*xual health.

These sessions are critical as they empower these young leaders to provide much needed guidance to their peers during this pivotal time in their young lives.

Polycystic O***y Syndrome, or Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), is the most common endocrine disorder in women of reproductive age. The syndrome is named after cysts which form on the ovaries of some women with this condition, though this is not a universal symptom, and not the underlying cause of the disorder.

Women with PCOS may experience irregular menstrual periods, heavy periods, excess hair, acne, pelvic pain, difficulty getting pregnant, and patches of thick, darker, velvety skin. The primary characteristics of this syndrome include: hyperandrogenism, anovulation, insulin resistance, and neuroendocrine disruption.

IPPF Regional Forum 2024

The St Lucia Planned Parenthood Association is currently participating in the IPPF- ACRO Regional Summit which is being held in Mexico. This Summit seeks to bring all relevant stakeholders together to discuss the importance of intergenerational activity through the youth network, strengthening ties, opportunities to influence, challenges and opportunities, among many other critical topics.

One of the more impactful sessions is the Youth Forum which seeks to build the IPPF structure and the 2028 strategy. This Forum also seeks to address the redefinition of youth governance, business plans and investment and also youth engagement.

We look forward to the strategies and commitments of all those involved in the sessions, with the aim of reenergizing our own local movement.

The International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) is a global healthcare provider and a leading advocate of s*xual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all. Led by a courageous and determined group of women, IPPF was founded in 1952 at the Third International Planned Parenthood Conference. Today, we are a movement of over 100 autonomous with a presence in over 140 countries.

Our work is wide-ranging, including comprehensive s*x education, provision of contraceptive, safe abortion, and maternal care and responding to humanitarian crisis.

Gender awareness is the ability to view society from the perspective of gender roles and understand how this has affected women's needs in comparison to that of men. It is also about the knowledge and understanding of the differences in the roles and relations between women and men.

At the recently held NSDC Summer Camp, we had the pleasure on presenting on the impactful topic of gender awareness. This was a really well received session and one with a difference. We also took the opportunity to also discuss the S*xual Reproductive System.

What a time to witness history!

We, at the St Lucia Planned Parenthood Association, stand tall as proud St Lucians in congratulating Julien Alfred on her double victory at the 2024 Olympic Games.

She has made this fair Helen of the West an extremely proud nation by winning the GOLD in the 100m and the SILVER in the 200m. Her place in history is most certainly secured and we celebrate with her.

Career planning helps you achieve your career goals by helping you address challenges, set goals and plan steps to reach them. It also provides valuable insights into your long-term goals and how best to reach them.

The Youth Advocacy Movement recently hosted a Career Guidance Workshop and focused on the areas of Entrepreneurship, CV and Resume Writing, Interview Skills and Interview Attire. We believe that everyone should have access to all this information so that they are better able to make the best choices in their career path.

The Youth Advocacy Movement recently hosted a gender based violence session with the women of Castries. This session was to sensitize the audience of the role gender plays in violence and how we can deal with violence in society.

Gender-based and domestic violence can be prevented. Prevention is about changing attitudes, gender roles and stereotypes that make violence against women acceptable, and raising awareness of different types of violence.
