Videos by Killer Whale Aquatics - Sri Lanka in Colombo. Dare to Dream BIG!
Ramudi Samarakoon has officially landed in Hungary!
This video was of her teammates giving her the traditional send off on her last day at KWA. Ramudi, one of KWA’s oldest and most adored team members, earned herself a historic, 3-year World Aquatics scholarship that will enable her to continue pursuing her swimming career while also completing her higher studies (a degree in International Relations) at Corvinus University in Budapest, Hungary. What an amazing opportunity! And there’s truly nobody more deserving.
Ramudi joined KWA alongside her older siblings, Rahul (our beloved former junior squad coach!) and Nisali, in 2010. She was also one of the first swimmers ever in our learn to swim academy. For 13 years we have watched her grow into the incredible woman she is today. And that is what makes this so bittersweet. On one hand we are over the moon for her to have this opportunity, but on the other, we will miss her dearly. Her infectious spirit is simply irreplaceable and will be missed at practice day in and day out. If there is one word her teammates would use to describe her, it would probably be “determined.” Ramudi is the definition of hard work. She’s gained the respect of every team member who has passed through KWA because of her relentless grit and dedication to the sport. She’s also put countless smiles on the faces of her coaches and teammates at KWA, never failing to make those around her laugh.
In her time at KWA, Ramudi has gone through every group of our team from the very bottom all the way to the top; from being our youngest junior to being our oldest and most experienced female swimmer. She has captained us, led us to several national championship wins, and represented KWA with pride and dignity. She has broken multiple national records, won medals for Sri Lanka at South Asian Games and earned too many accolades to count. Simply put, she has cemented herself as one of the greatest Sri Lankan swimmers ever.
Good luck Ramudi!

Last Thursday at SwimAmerica we had the privilege of having Two-Time Olympic Swimmer, 14-time South Asian Games gold medalist and KWA Elite Group member, Matthew Abeysinghe, coaching our Level 10 swimmers. We also had Coach Manoj Abeysinghe, SwimAmerica Program Director, Two-Time Olympic Coach and Head Coach of KWA in the water with our Level 9 swimmers. What an honor! Imagine you show up to your swim lesson and your coach is an Olympic Swimmer/Coach. Who wants to see Matthew and Coach Manoj in the water again? 🏊🏽♂️🐳 #LearnToSwim #Swimming #SLswimming #SwimAmerica #SwimAmericaSL #ASCAswimming #DareToDreamBig
Dirhean Dias, one of the oldest members of KWA, starting all the way back in 2010, swam his last practice with us today and was given the traditional send off for graduating seniors. He has been through every group of our club, from the very bottom to the very top. He is a dual coloursman in both swimming and water polo at St. Thomas’ College. He also captained in both sports last year. In 2023, he was selected to the Sri Lankan National Pool for his performance at SC Nationals last December. He will be attending Monash University in Australia for higher studies. His galant career at KWA is the embodiment of our core philosophy; long term athlete development. Dirhean, you’ve grown to become such a respectable and upstanding individual. We wish you the best of luck in whatever endeavors you choose to pursue in the future! #DareToDreamBig
