A huge performance by our juniors swimmers at the Gold March Single Age Group Swimming Championships this past weekend! One of the very few meets where our swimmers get to swim as a united front under the KWA banner. What an experience it was for our young athletes! Here’s a recap of their performance:
Winner of the Girl’s Overall Team Championship
1st Runner Up of the Boy’s Overall Team Championship
Deehein Alvitigala - Individual Champion in the 11 Year Old Boy’s Category
Hashel Senarath - Individual Champion in the 12 Year Old Boy’s Category
Danudi Wickramarathne - Individual Champion in the 14 Year Old Girl’s Category
Not listed above are all of the Gold, Silver and Bronze medalists, the first time medal winners, the swimmers who achieved personal bests, and most importantly, something that is simply impossible to quantify; the joys and jubilations of competing alongside your teammates, the camaraderie fostered through the challenge of competition, and the pride one takes in representing their team. Way to go Killer Whales!
A small Sinhala and Tamil New Year/Eid celebration organized by the KWA parents for our Killer Whale Junior and Senior Squad swimmers. What a wonderful morning! Thank you to everyone who made this happen. Wishing everyone good company, good health and a prosperous year ahead!
➡️ KWA has fielded a team of 12 swimmers to represent Sri Lanka at the Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in New Clark City, Philippines. Congratulations on your selection everybody! Good luck, make Sri Lanka proud! 🇱🇰
Competing on the world stage after a four and a half year break from the sport, Kyle Abeysinghe made an emphatic statement by swimming a fast 50.99 in the 100m Freestyle.
It is even more impressive, considering he swam this time without competition in Lane 9 of Heat 3. Congratulations Kyle, you have put your hand up to be counted for the Paris Olympics 2024!
A PB for Hiruki in the 200m Freestyle! She dropped exactly half a second off her previous best. Like her teammate did yesterday, she also posted the fastest time by a South Asian swimmer at these World Championships. Way to go Hiruki! Congratulations on a new best time! 👏
In the first swim for Sri Lanka at the 2024 World Championships, Ganga Senavirathne swims a 1:04.93, just a little bit off her best time. After struggling for the past 6 months to get back to the form she had attained in early 2023, this was a “much needed personal win for me,” Ganga says. This was also the fastest time posted by a South Asian at World Championships. Well done Ganga! 🇱🇰

Merry Christmas to you and yours from the KWA and SwimAmerica Family! 🎄💚
Diyatalawa is a place that challenges not only your physical ability, but your mental fortitude. It is a place that forges children into adults. It separates the wheat from the chaff. To succeed in an environment where you are constantly tested, pushed and pulled, broken down, and torn apart— you must find places inside yourself you didn’t know existed. This adaptation is what leads to improvement. For 13 years, Diyatalawa has served as a foundry for these tools to be cast and developed in KWA athletes.
Thank you to Sri Lanka Army and the Sri Lanka Air Force for being a reliable partner over these 13 years, this year being no exception. We greatly appreciate the sense of social responsibility to aid in the development of the young sportsmen and women of Sri Lanka that is displayed by the SLA and SLAF.
And a special thanks to all of the parents who helped organize camp. We wouldn’t have been able to accomplish this if not for your efforts!
Photo Dump: a few moments from training camp so far
KWA Parents enjoying the free babysitting service while their kids are at camp! 😂
We greatly appreciate the efforts of the parents who helped organize this and make camp possible. Swimming isn’t just about the dynamic between the coaches and the swimmers, parents play a crucial role in the development of our athletes too. One Team, One Family. 💙
