Title: Case Report: Successful Management of Parvoviral Infection and Tick fever( both babesiosis and ehrlichiosis) in a Canine Patient

Toby, a six-week-old canine, was presented to our clinic on 23.02.2024, exhibiting symptoms consistent with parvoviral infection. Through diligent medical interventions and the dedicated support of his owner, Toby successfully overcame this life-threatening viral infection.

Case Presentation:
Three weeks post-recovery from parvoviral infection, Toby's owner reached out to us concerned about his lethargy and pale gums. Following our recommendation for a comprehensive blood checkup, Toby was diagnosed with severe anemia and tick infestation upon presentation to our clinic.

Management and Treatment:
Immediate therapeutic measures were initiated to address Toby's critical condition. Intensive treatment protocols were implemented to combat both the tick infestation and the resultant anemia. Over a span of 10 days, marked improvements were observed in Toby's blood counts and overall clinical condition, indicating a positive response to the treatment regimen.

Discussion:
The successful management of Toby's dual health challenges underscores the importance of prompt veterinary intervention, vigilant owner participation, and a tailored treatment approach in complex clinical scenarios. Toby's remarkable recovery serves as a testament to his resilience and the collaborative efforts of the veterinary team and the pet owner.

Conclusion:
In conclusion, Toby's journey highlights the potential for favorable outcomes even in dire medical circumstances when met with timely and comprehensive veterinary care, coupled with unwavering owner dedication. බොහෝ මිනිසුන් මෙන්ම සුරතල් සතුන්ද කුඩා කෘමීන්ගේ කේටය මෙන්ම සපා කෑමේදී නිකුත්වන විශ ග්‍රන්ථි වල ස්‍රාවයන්ගේ ඇති ප්‍රෝටීන වලට ආසාත්මිකතා පෙන්වයි. සමහර සතුන් උපතින්ම එම ආසාත්මිකතා රැගෙන එන අතර සමහර සතුන් කිහිප වතාවක් එලෙස කෘම් දශ්ටනයන්ට ලක් වීමෙන් ආසාත්මිකතා ලක්ෂණ පෙන්වීමට පටන් ගනී.
කෘමි දශ්ටනයන්ට ලක්වූ සතුන්ගේ බොහෝවිට එම ස්ථානය ඉදිමී රතු පැහැයක් ගන්නා අතර ශරීරය පුරා රතු පැහැයෙන් යුක්ත වූ පළු දැමීමට පටන් ගනී.එම පළු කැසීමට පටන් ගන්නා අතර සත්වයා දුවමින් ඇග බිම ඇතිල්ලීමට පටන් ගනී.
ඉතා ඉක්මනින් ප්‍රතිකාර ලබා දිය යුතු තත්ත්වයක් වන මෙය නොසලකා හැරීමෙන් ශ්වසන අපහසුතා සහ වමනය ඇතිවී දරුණු ආසාත්මිකතා ( anaphylactic shock) තත්වයකට පත්විය හැක.
හැකි ඉක්මනින් ප්‍රථිකාර ලබා දීම මගින් රෝගී සත්වයා සුව කර ගත් හැකි අතර anaphylactic shock අවස්ථාවට මුහුණ දුන් සමහර සතුන් හැරුණු විට බොහෝ සතුන්ගේ සුවවීම ඉතා හොද තතවයක පවතී.
එලෙසම නැවත නැවතත් ආසාත්මික තත්වය ඇති කල කෘමි දශ්ටනයන්ට ලක්වීමෙන් තත්වය බරපතල විය හැකි අතට නැවතත් දශ්ටනයන්ට ලක් නොවීමට වග බලා ගැනීම ඔබගේ වගකීමකි.

This year’s World Rabies Day theme is: “One Health, Zero Death”.

One Health

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the stark vulnerabilities of health systems but it also demonstrated what collaboration across sectors can achieve.

Rabies control programmes offer a great example for One Health implementation and the structures and trust that underpin these are crucial for other zoonotic diseases, including those that are pandemic-prone.

Zero Deaths

The world has the vaccines, medicines, tools, and technologies to break the cycle of one of the oldest diseases.

Zero by 30: Global Strategic Plan for the elimination of dog-mediated human rabies deaths by 2030 is an ambitious document with achievable targets. It is aligned with the new NTD road map that prioritizes integrated interventions and mainstreaming of NTD programmes within national health systems.

The integrated approaches advocated in both the Global Strategic Plan for rabies and the road map are relevant, as they show the importance of working together optimally and collaboratively in face of numerous challenges, as experienced during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

It is therefore critical to work with stakeholders, champions, and people at community, local, national, and global levels to rebuild and strengthen health systems and rabies control programs.

World Rabies Day was created to raise awareness and advocate for rabies elimination globally and is designed to unite all people, organizations, and stakeholders against rabies.

World Rabies Day is held every year on September 28. This date was chosen as it is the anniversary of the death of Louis Pasteur – the first person to successfully create a vaccine against rabies.

Collaboration is critical for success and everyone is encouraged to take part. The only way that we can eliminate rabies and end the needless suffering is by working together and uniting towards a common goal – the goal of Zero by 30.
