Single Use Plastic free Zone

We, at Aitken Spence Travels are excited to announce that our office on the 4th floor of the Aitken Spence Tower II will be declared as a “Single Use Plastic Free Zone” from 5th June 2024. This is an initiative to be in line with our sustainability commitments and the new regulations of the government of Sri Lanka regarding the single use plastics. We have already started to build awareness among our staff on the impact of single use plastics and the alternatives they can use.

Solar PV is crucial for Sri Lanka's sustainable future, offering clean energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting sustainable development. In June 2017, Turyaa Kalutara Hotel installed a 150 kW solar PV system, generating over 1,128,000 kWh to date. This project, partially funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) grant, has saved 824 tons of GHG emissions. The project's success has inspired plans to introduce solar PV systems to other properties including Heritance Negombo and properties in the Maldives. By expanding these sustainable practices, the hotel chain aims to significantly reduce its environmental footprint and promote renewable energy use across its operations.
