Hybrid vehicle technology swept the market almost 20 years ago. After being introduced, it has been an ever-growing market for hybrid vehicles due to its inherited fuel efficiency and smooth driving experience. Heat makes batteries work harder. In nickel-metal hydride batteries, excessive heat can cause bulging or bubbling. This leads to electrolytes inside of the hybrid car battery to evaporate, which in turn means the battery loses its ability to recharge properly. Long story short, this shortens the length of car battery’s life.
For Lithium-ion batteries also, the optimum temperature to keep them is between 5 – 20 Celsius, while 15 Celsius being the optimum temperature. Hence in any country with tropical climate or any country that has a summery weather both of these battery types will decay out their capacity well before the guaranteed time period.
Other than the heat there are two other main causes for the deterioration of batteries. First one is not properly maintaining the battery cooling blower or the cooling system and the second one is not using the vehicle at a sufficient level so that the battery will charge and discharge itself out. Both of these scenarios are quite easily avoidable if proper attention is paid.
