A 13-year Boy on a Mission!

Meet Thanvanth, a 13-year-old boy with a big heart and an even bigger dream. After crossing the Palk Strait, this determined young environmentalist has set his sights on making a real difference along Sri Lanka's East Coast. His goal? To create a thriving home for coral reefs, sea turtles, and other marine life.

On 8th September 2024 , Thanvanth and his friends made significant progress, in removing plastic, polythene, and other waste from the shore. These efforts are not just about cleaning up the beach but about protecting the fragile ecosystem beneath the waves. By clearing the seabed of harmful pollutants, Thalava and his team are giving coral reefs a chance to regenerate, ensuring a safe habitat for sea turtles and other marine creatures.

Let’s support Thanvanth in turning his dreams into reality and help build a better future for marine life.

BLUECAP Launches School Education and Awareness Program

The BLUECAP team is excited to announce the launch of a new education and awareness program in 15 districts, targeting school students to combat plastic mismanagement. This initiative aims to address the significant issues of plastic waste in Sri Lanka, where ~44% of plastics are currently open-burned and ~27% are openly dumped.
Our program is set to reach 552 schools, engaging approximately 55,200 students. By equipping these students with knowledge and practical skills, we aim to extend the impact of our message beyond the classroom, encouraging students to bring their newfound understanding home and promote responsible plastic waste management within their communities.

Through this program, BLUECAP is dedicated to reducing plastic pollution, addressing plastic mismanagement, and promoting recycling to uplift livelihoods.

Cleanup Milestone!

We are thrilled to announce that since April 2024, BLUECAP field officers have successfully completed 50 cleanups across 9 districts in Sri Lanka, making significant strides in our fight against plastic pollution. A total of 887 male and 1,257 female volunteers participated in these efforts, showcasing a strong community commitment to environmental preservation.

Together, they intercepted 3,338 kgs of recyclable plastics, which were sent for recycling through the regional Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs). Beyond the physical cleanup, all volunteers were educated on how to properly manage their consumer plastic waste, raising awareness to prevent further plastic mismanagement.

This milestone highlights the power of collective action in safeguarding our environment and fostering responsible waste management. BLUECAP remains dedicated to building awareness and ensuring that our coastlines stay plastic-free for future generations.

Stay tuned! We are expanding our efforts across 15 districts to continue battling the plastic crisis.

The Hidden Cost of Paradise

Sri Lanka is renowned for its stunning coastline, with golden sands and turquoise waters that attract travelers worldwide. However, this beauty is at risk due to the growing issue of beach pollution especially around the River Mouths and Fishery Areas. As plastic waste and debris pile up on our shores, the environment, fishery, and tourism industries, which rely on clean, inviting beaches, suffer.

Let’s work together to protect our coastline and create a future where Sri Lanka’s beaches are known not for their pollution, but for their cleanliness and sustainability.
Join BLUECAP to make Sri Lanka’s beaches blue again!

Let’s Break the Cycle of Irresponsible Disposals .

Have you ever considered the journey of a plastic bottle after it leaves your hands?

It starts innocently enough—purchased from a supermarket, used at home, but too often, its journey doesn’t end in a recycling bin. Instead, it follows a harmful path: from your home, it might make its way to a stream or river, and eventually, to our beaches, via the river mouths polluting the very environment we cherish.

Let's train our communities to avoid irresponsible dumping !
