A cancer's stage is determined by factors like tumour size, invasion of nearby tissues, lymph node involvement, and tumour grade. Understanding the 5 stages can empower you:

Stage 0️⃣ - Non-invasive cancer
Stage 1️⃣ - Small, confined tumour
Stage 2️⃣ - Larger, localised tumour
Stage 3️⃣ - Cancer is larger and may have spread to adjacent tissue or lymph nodes

“When you get hit by such a diagnosis, your priority changes. There was no thinking of money or work. The decision for treatment is the first decision you make. Any other decisions are influenced by that first decision.”

David’s Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) diagnosis was a big life-changer. Despite targeted therapy treatments, his CML had progressed into Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) because of a unique mutation in the gene driving the CML, which made targeted therapy less effective.

Despite setbacks, David remained determined in his cancer journey. Tap here to find out how he overcame ALL: https://bit.ly/3vl7OW1

In the last decade, advancements in colorectal cancer treatments have led to improved outcomes for patients! 👏

One of the newer approaches is genomic profiling, which involves studying the genetic information related to the patient or specific cell type in a laboratory – observing how the genes react with each other and the environment.

Genomic profiling is valuable for understanding why certain individuals develop certain diseases while others do not, or why different individuals can respond differently to the same drug.

This approach allows doctors to personalise treatments to patients based on their cancer characteristics and genetic make-up.

With advancements in technology, colon cancer patients now have access to more effective detection and treatment options. 🏥💊

💉Colonoscopy: This crucial test not only detects colon cancer early but also allows for the removal of precancerous polyps, potentially preventing cancer from developing.

💉Laparoscopic surgery: A minimally invasive procedure that removes affected parts of the colon, promoting quicker recovery and less discomfort for patients.

💉Robot-assisted surgery: Robots are now assisting surgeons in performing complex surgeries with greater precision and control for greater patient outcome.

These advancements are making a real difference in the lives of colon cancer patients. Stay informed and explore your options 🩺

Recent research suggests a strong link between processed meat and cancer, comparable to the risk associated with smoking. 🚬

The World Health Organization states that a daily intake of 50g of processed meat could elevate cancer risk by up to 18% (roughly two small sausages or one slice of bak kwa). Additionally, harmful N-Nitroso compounds in processed meat can damage bowel cells and heighten the risk of DNA errors leading to cancer.

Moderation is key in consuming processed meat. Consider cutting down on processed and red meat while opting for a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fibre.

Advancing Myeloma Treatment - Insights from Haematology Experts | Parkway Cancer Centre
Multiple myeloma is a type of blood cancer that affects plasma cells in the bone marrow. It is the second most common type of blood cancer, afflicts more than 100 patients in Singapore a year, and has a rising incidence in Asia.

After a patient receives a multiple myeloma diagnosis, first-line therapies will be used to control the cancer and help achieve remission. However, after a time of being in remission, most people will relapse, which means the cancer will return.

New research strives to prolong lives and improve quality of life for patients battling this disease. Dr Dawn Mya Hae Tha and Dr Teo Cheng Peng from Parkway Cancer Centre highlight the continued need for more effective treatments as multiple myeloma remains incurable.
