ඇමරිකාවේ පැරණිතම ශිෂ්ටාචාර වලින් එකක් තමයි Caral-Supe ශිෂ්ටාචාරය කියන්නෙ. මේ ශිෂ්ටාචාරය තුළ ගොඩනැගිලි ඉදිකිරීම සඳහා තමයි මූලික වශයෙන් ෂික්රා භාවිතා වුනේ.

මොනවාද මේ ෂික්රා කියන්නෙ?
ෂික්රා කියන්නෙ ශාක කෙඳි වලින් නිර්මාණය කල බෑග්වල ඔතා ඇති ගල් වලින් සමන්විත අද්විතීය ගොඩනැගිලි අත්තිවාරම් යෙදීමක්.

මේ විදියේ අත්තිවාරම් වල ප්‍රධාන අරමුණ වුනේ භූමිකම්පා වැනි විනාශකාරී බලවේගයන්ගෙන් මේ ව්‍යුහයන් ආරක්ෂා කිරීමයි. ඊට හේතුව, මේ භූමිය භූ කම්පන තහඩු මායිම් දිගේ පිහිටීම හේතුවෙන් කලාපයේ සාපේක්ෂව බහුලව භූමිකම්පා දක්නට ලැබීමයි.

කපු හෝ වෙනත් ඒ හා සමාන ශාක ද්‍රව්‍ය වල කෙඳි (fiber) වලින් මේ කූඩ විවීම සිදුකර තිබෙනවා. පසුව මේ කූඩ ගල්වලින් පුරවා, සංයුක්ත හා නම්යශීලී ව්යුහයක් නිර්මාණය කරනවා.

භූමිකම්පා වලට ප්‍රතිරෝධයේ දී ෂික්රා හි සඵලතාවයේ යතුර වෙන්නෙ එහි නම්‍යශීලී බවයි. භූමිකම්පාවක් සිදු වූ විට, කූඩය තුළ ඇති ගල් මාරු වී චලනය වන අතර, එයින් භූ කම්පන ශක්තිය අවශෝෂණය කර විසුරුවා හරිනවා. එයින් ගොඩනැගිලිවල දැඩි ව්‍යුහාත්මක ආතතිය වළක්වා, කඩා වැටීමේ අවදානම අඩු කරනවා.

ෂික්රා භාවිතය වසර 5,000කට වඩා පැරණි තාක්ෂණයක් වන අතර, එය ලොව පැරණිතම භූ කම්පන විරෝධී ක්‍රමවලින් එකක් ද වෙනවා. ඒ සුප්‍රසිද්ධ ඉන්කා ශිෂ්ටාචාරයට සහස්‍ර කීපයකට පෙරාතුවයි.
