For a immediate press release.
Paynesville, Liberia, December 14, 2023

Members of the class of intelligentsia, Apostles of Social and Economic Justice, Progenitors and Drivers of Masses Driven Advocacy, our Market Women, Members of the Joint Security Apparatus, Watch-Dogs of Society, fellow Liberians.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, we as Human rights activists have gathered here today at this hollow spot under the banner Campaigners Against Mob Justice to seek justice for Madam Deddeh Simonds who was dehumanized by a group of unscrupulous men in a disturbing video circulating social media.

Ladies and Gentlemen of the Press, it will amaze you to know that since the end of Liberia’s civil war, mob violence has become a frequent occurrence for an alleged criminal to be lynched, by an angry mob, including bystanders who simply have no inkling about the issue in the controversy or the person involved. All that is required to instigate mob violence is to simply shout rogue! rogue! rouge! in a crowded area, and to point at somebody. Before the victim realizes what is happening, a mammoth crowd descends on him or her and the consequence is instant death, severe aggravated bodily injury, etc.

Ladies and gentlemen of the Press, Fellow Liberians, the recent wave of mob violence has inter penetrated our society so much. The last few months have been horrible scenes beyond human imagination:

*In Maryland County, we witnessed the home of the Speaker of the House Dr. Borfhal Chambers being burnt down

*In Grand Gedeh County, we witnessed the home of Senator Zoe Emmanue Pennoh been destroyed by lovers

*On the Japan Freeway during the recent presidential Campaign, we watched a young man being mobbed to death

*We recently witnessed one of Liberia's promising Models, Joshua being mobbed and was recently pronounced dead.

Amidst these horrible accounts of Mob Justice, we have assembled here today to demand justice for Madam Deddeh Simonds who on the faithful day of November 13, 2023, had gone to Redlight market to buy weekly provisions and medications for her family. We have been informed by her daughter, Miss Tribuae Brown that while walking through the market, the victim was being tailed by unknown men seeking to know her choice of candidate for the just-ended presidential elections. They further threatened her, "If you do not speak out we are going to flog and naked you". Miss Deddeh fearing for her life, began to run for rescue to some market women who didn't care about her safety. The perpetrators chased after her and began shouting "rogue! rogue! Princess the Motorbike rogue! In no time she was beaten and stripped naked by those monsters. It took the Police more than two hours to come to her rescue after fleeing to seek refuge in her Mother's Container in Redlight where the mobbers were threatening to burn her alive if she did not come out. It took the bravery of her daughter, Miss Tribueau to get Police Officers assigned at Zone-5 Police Station to rescue her mother who was already severely brutalized with blood oozing from all over her body. Initial Medical Reports coming from Ghana where she is undergoing treatment suggest that her spinal cord is broken and she's suffering from a mental disorder.

Ladies and gentlemen of the press, fellow Liberians, Article 21 of the 1986 Constitution of the Republic of Liberia says that any person accused of committing a crime is presumed ‘innocent until proven guilty’ in a competent court which exercises appropriate jurisdiction on such matters and persons. Assuming without admitting that Miss Deddeh is a "motorbike rogue" as alleged by the perpetrators, whose motorbike was allegedly stolen? What gave them the right to dehumanise her to the point of scraping her naked? Additionally, the Constitution guaranteed the right to political participation without interference. Nobody deserves to be beaten like Miss Deddeh Simonds because of their political beliefs. This is wrong and totally unacceptable and it has to STOP NOW!

The Attorney General of Kentucky, Daniel J. Cameron was right when he said, "Mob justice is not justice. Justice sought by violence is not justice."
The actions carried out by those monsters did not serve justice. Liberia cannot afford to allow mob justice to become a nightmare that torture our democratic aspirations. The time for action is now!!!

Given the above, the Campaigners against Mob Justice has come today in demand of justice for Miss Deddeh Simonds who was severely brutalized on November 13 at this very spot and present the following counts:

1. We demand the Minister of Justice and the Inspector General of the Liberia National Police to arrest and investigate those perpetrators as seen in the video and bring them to justice!

2. That The Court, through the Solicitor General press for a speedy trial to bring to book those responsible for such a horrible act.

3. That the Government implement stringent measures to root out this menace (Mob Violence)from our society ensuring that previous lives lost to mob violence will not go in vain

4. That the Government should create harsh laws and penalties for perpetrators of mob violence

5. That the Government increase police presence in places with high crime rates. Paynesville Redlight should be no exception.

In conclusion, we which to thank the family Lawyer, Cllr. Kla Edwin Martin and all those who continue to stand by the victim during this very difficult moment. We ask you to join us in prayers for the victims as we seek justice.

No to Mob Violence!

No to Violence Against Women!

Justice for Deddeh Simonds!

Thanks.

Signed:-------------------------------------------------

On the 13th of November 2023, Miss. Deddeh M. Simmond was Brutalized, and is a victim of mob violence and aggravated assault in Red light, Pipeline Junction.

According to Miss. Tribute B. Brown daughter of the victim, Ms. Deddeh went red light market to buy usher medication and weekly food. While walking, three boys were walking behind her and when she noticed, she decided to stop to give them chance but they kept tracing her and lately walked up to her asking who she voted for but she wasn’t taking them serious, one of the perpetrators told her “if you don’t speak out we are going to flog and naked you”. Miss. Deddeh became afraid and tried to run out to few women for help but they did not look in her direction. The perpetrators became to accuse her of being motorcycles thief and calling her “princess the motorcycle thief”, unfortunately for her no body went to her aid when shouting she wasn’t princess and didn’t know who is princess but the perpetrators kept humiliating and assaulting for two hours and later got threatened to be burned. With the help of God, she was able to muster the courage to run from the crime scene to her mother’s container in red light, where her mother sells. But the perpetrators followed her and started to throw stones at the container demanding Ms. Deddeh to come out that she’s princess, she should come out or they will burn the container.
Later police came around from Red light depot and demanded her to come out and she was detained at the police station in Red-light for an hour until her daughter’s Miss. Tribute B. Brown arrived with officers from the zoom 5 police station to ease the tension, the perpetrators ran away while Miss. Deddeh was rushed at the hospital.
A weeks later, three of the perpetrators was arrested and they’re at the Monrovia prison center as pre trial detainees.
Miss. Deddeh is currently undergoing treatment in Ghana, from the mob violence, her spinal cords got broken and she’s struggling mental disorder.
We demand speedy trial!!!!

As we start the 16 Days of Activism 2023 campaign, Let’s Speak Girls Inc, continues her HE for SHE campaign in secondary schools in Liberia addressing issues of GBV in our society.
As long we try educating our Girls about Gender Based violence that doesn’t reduce the fact that Girls are safe.
Therefore, we should also educate boys on these issues because they are most likely the perpetrators.
Once we don’t educate them on violence there will be continuity of violence in our society.

We can only achieve this not by only educating girls alone.
There is a need for us to go out there and educate the boys especially those that are still young that will grow in to adults in the future.

We believe targeting men to become ambassadors of Change to prevent gender based violence is by catching them young because they are growing in to adults, it’s the rightful time educating them on issues of GBV and stereotypes women faced when they are victims or survivors of gender Based Violence in society.

Our He-for -She campaigns is to break the continuation of GBV, for victims, their families, the community relationship and the professionals providing assistance.
Our ideas is to builds HE for SHE in schools.
As long as we try addressing the issues of GBV in our society and we try educating our girls, that doesn’t reduce the fact girls are safe.
Therefore, Let’s Speak,Girls Inc. and The Girls' Pride Initiative thought it wise to also educate boys on these issues because they are mostly the perpetrators and they are still young to grow into adults.
