To provide quality sexual and reproductive health including family planning information and services
Young people have special Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights needs that remain unmet, and to address these SRHR needs, the use of innovative approaches is required to ensure access to safe, effective, affordable, and acceptable SRHR services.
On Saturday, October 16, 2021, we honored an invitation from the Young Africans Capacity Building Network to speak on the topic "Using mobile phones to improve young people s*xual reproductive health" at a one-day lecture series in celebration of the International Day of the Girl Child for adolescents and young people.
A big thank you to our Youth Program Assistant, Ms. Kulubo Nyamahlorpu Koquoi, for representing us at that event.
In observance of the International youth day, the Youth Action Movement (YAM) with support from the Planned Parenthood Association of Liberia, hosted a one day interactive discussion on family planning and s*xual abstinence with their fellow peers at the Dewellie orphanage home in Rehab community paynesville.
As we join the world over to celebrate the International youth day, the Youth Action Movement of Liberia (YAM) is saying to adolescents and young people to,
*Take more responsibility for your s*xual behaviour and action
*Avoid casual and unprotected s*x
*Say No to unwanted pregnancy
*Say no to STIs including HIV/AIDS
*Say No to r**e
* Encouraged s*xual abstinence
*Join others to advocate for a better future for youth.

PPAL says, know your self defense skills!
Know the facts.
Violence against women: Facts everyone should know
It is happening all around you. One in three women and girls around the world experience physical or s*xual violence in their lifetime.
Sexual violence against women, girls and children is a daily occurrence around you
Perpetrators are people you know and trusted; fathers, uncles, relations / family members, neighbors, friends etc.
R**e is the second most commonly reported (and sometimes unreported) serious crime in Liberia.
Only 2% of r**es and Sexual and Gender Based Violence cases reported in 2015 resulted in a conviction in the court.
R**e victims do not achieve justice due to institutional weaknesses, gender stereotype, corruption and societal cover up.
R**e and other forms of s*xual violence results into trauma, mental illness and death.
Do not wait until you are a victim! It is a collective fight ! Let's unite and fight this evil that put the lives of our women and girls in jeopardy.
Gender Based Violence (GBV) is a persistent and widespread global tragedy that needs to end. We must not forget that this is a blatant human rights violation experienced by millions of women and girls around the world.
The Planned Parenthood Association of Liberia(PPAL),
will be bringing you daily updates of Its activities through out the 16days of activism.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) presented a certificate of recognition to the Planned Parenthood Association of Liberia (PPAL) for its contributions to the successful implementation and impact of the Partnership for Advancing Community-Based Services (PACS) project funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) between 2015 and 2017.
The project built on community based health services in selected counties within Liberia, increased access to community based health services and strengthen the health system.
The goal was to improve primary health care through household access to integrated community based health services that ensured the effectiveness of community health and the well being of underserved communities. The project educated and delivered integrated maternal and child health services with focus on under-5 and pregnant women using community based approach.
Some of the outcomes included improved knowledge and health seeking behavior among community members, increased access to immunization services and access to infectious disease services, bridged the gap between communities and and caregivers, strengthened the formal health system, established a functional mechanism for treatment and referral, particularly in communities where the health services are not readily available.

Hello friends
Thank you for being a part of our online series on life skills. We hope you like the first edition and was helpful to you in some ways. As part of our efforts to make it better, we have decided to make it into 4-5 minute video clips which we think it’s friendlier than texts. However, we will continue to post the script with each edition for those of us that may like to have it.
We enjoin you to rebroadcast the video and script through your contact on all social media channels available to you. We are sure that we will keep on getting better with each edition. Kindly provide us with feedback on how relevant and useful these series are to you and suggest areas that require improvement. Thank you and best wishes.
Life skills 1: Self-Esteem
What is Self-Esteem?
Self-esteem is a person's overall sense of self-worth or personal value. In other words, how much you appreciate and like yourself. It involves a variety of beliefs about yourself, such as the appraisal of your own appearance, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. It relates to one’s psychological, mental and emotional life
Self-esteem can also refer to the positive (high self-esteem) or negative (low self-esteem) feelings that we have about ourselves. We experience the positive feelings of high self-esteem when we believe that we are good and worthy and that others view us positively. We experience the negative feelings of low self-esteem when we believe that we are inadequate and less worthy than others.
Why should you develop high self-esteem? (Benefits)
• It causes happiness and senses of security
• Boosts your confidence, helps the choices you make and boosts your resilience
• Make you aspire and aim high and develop a sense of purpose
• Prevents you from getting into trouble or regrets
• Earns you respect and makes you attract attention, sometimes negative
• Positively helps your relationship with others
• Boosts your physical and mental health
• Makes you to be open to learning and feedback
Tips for developing high self-esteem
• Accept yourself – identity, looks, shape, size, body formation etc. (you are wonderfully and fearfully made by God)
• Appreciate yourself – positive confessions,
• Don’t subject or live your life based on dictate of others – live your life, have a sense of direction,
• Don’t live to please anyone – live to please God and yourself
• Don’t seek approval of people
• When you fail or fall, stand up and go for it again using the lessons from the fall
• Develop and exhibit healthy pride (a realistic sense of your worth). Don’t develop and exhibit superiority or self-defeating pride
• Develop and exhibit healthy humility
• Don’t become selfish when developing your self-esteem
• Don’t try to be someone else – you can learn from people and apply the lessons/learning
• Don’t follow the crowd – avoid crowd behaviour e.g. everyone is doing it, let me also join
• Have and make positive confessions about yourself
• Read inspirational and motivational books and spend as much time as you can with positive and uplifting people
• Work on your weaknesses or limitations
• Appreciate what you have. Adopt legitimate approach in getting what you don’t have.
