LDEA Nabs Nigerian With 35 Sachets Of Co***ne
SINJE, July 5 (LINA) - The Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has arrested a 37-year-old Nigerian with 35 sachets of co***ne valued at about US$26,000 at the checkpoint in Tienie, Tewor District, Grand Cape Mount County.
Speaking to the Liberia News Agency on Thursday, LDEA head of the Cape Mount detachment, Octavius Mannah, said the Nigerian, Godwin Okoro, was arrested on Wednesday when LDEA officers were carrying on their routine checkup.
Mannah said suspect Okoro, who entered the country from Sierra Leone, attempted to smuggle the substance through his stomach, but when quizzed by security agents, he confessed and was given laxative that forced the sachets from his stomach.
Manneh said suspect Okoro will be taken to Bo Waterside for further investigation and processing for court trial.
The LDEA Detachment in Grand Cape Mount has over the past three months made several drug-related arrests, mainly along the border with Sierra Leone.
Tienie is few kilometers away from Sierra Leone border.
Recently, LDEA Commander in the area, Mannah, disclosed that he was arrested by Sierra Leonean police on alleged drug charges because of his uncompromising stance on drug trafficking along the border between the two countries.
Upon his release, he described his arrest as a “set up”.
This brings to two Mannah’s drug bursts since his release, coming after two Sierra Leonean women were arrested trying to smuggle a huge consignment of ma*****na into Liberia about a week ago.
