I generally happy with the tone of this year’s budget speech and have just one thing bugging me…..

On the The 17th February 2021, Minister of Finance of Said

“…SACU revenue is expected to decline due to uncertainties and volatility faced by the SACU pool coupled with the expected huge negative adjustment in 2022/23.”

The Budgeted SACU Revenue for 2021/2022 was M6,007.80 (Billion Maloti). The Expected Outrun (Actual collected is/will be) M5,399.60; resulting in a budget shortfall of M608.2 (Million Maloti).

Now in February 2023, The Minister of Finance reports that the budgeted SACU Revenue for 2022/2023 is M10,148.400 (Billion Maloti); an amount higher than SACU revenue 2021/2022 actuals of M5,399.6oB, I mean a whopping increase of M4,748.80,……..88% Increase on last year……..Halleluiah! Jesus is risen from the dead….If not a heavenly intervention….can somebody explain why SACU income has been declining and most importantly why it is believed to recover in almost double portion in 2023.

Otherwise; the Integrity of this Budget Speech is compromised Prudentially
