A new Crusades story, a new map of the Crusader states

Professor Tyerman has been for the last decades the most authoritative figure in the history of the Crusades and in my own mapmaking endeavours. His astonishing 1000 page work "God's War" inaugurated a complete overhaul of the traditional thinking about the Crusades. The new assessment, with nearly universal scholarly approval, argues that Christian Holy wars were NOT ground-shaking barbaric incursions into peaceful Muslim world. Rather, they were just another means of medieval ideological warfare, quickly becoming part of the already violent Middle Eastern puzzle.

I was hounoured to present my map to Professor Tyerman in Oxford and receive his praise for the work. With his permission, I'm sharing a bit of it with you.

My map stands here next to one of the most patriotic Lithuanian American families 🇱🇹🇺🇸 Vidmantas Valiusaitis created a book of the essential writings about by the late A. Budreckis whose relatives have flown to Vilnius to attend its presentation. The map serves to provide visual context to the whole event.
