Networking Tips. Part 2. After we prepared for the conference and determined networking targets and the contact points, it was time to act! Alex Zamiatin, Investment Director at Intema shared his tips on how to charm new acquaintances and leave a pleasant aftertaste. 😋
During the conversation with the new connection, express genuine interest in the work or presentation of the counterparty person. In my conversation, I try to be concise and open-ended to encourage further discussion. So it’s better to avoid the yes/no questions. 💬
🌎 When you’re connecting with a person with a different cultural background, please, be mindful of the cultural differences and steer clear of divisive subjects to maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere during networking conversations. Avoid sensitive or controversial topics such as politics, religion, and personal matters.
If the conference you’re attending offers side events - don’t go, run! 🏃♂️ These gatherings, which may be organized by the conference hosts or other entities, provide a relaxed setting for continued networking. It’s an opportunity to form stronger connections, as people are generally more open and approachable outside the formal conference environment. 🤝
Think over the process of contact exchange. A classic business card is fine, also why not leverage technology by using QR codes or business card apps to exchange contact information effortlessly?
🖋 The after-conference follow-up is a must. Let your new acquaintance think of you again by sharing the key takeaways, expressing gratitude for any insights gained, and suggesting potential collaboration or a follow-up meeting.
That’s it! Of course, when networking at conferences - business first. But allow yourself to relax and let the conversation flow. A good sense of humor, open-mindedness, and common interests are the ingredients of the charming potion. 🔮
🏈 While the Internet’s buzzing about the Kansas City Chiefs winning at the Super Bowl, Taylor Swift and the Half-time show, starring Usher and Alicia Keys, we’re here to discuss AI and what it has to do with the National Football League. 🤖
When the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers, everybody who betted on the Chiefs at sweepstakes, became winners as well. Sweepstakes are a popular tradition at big sports events. For the loyal fans there’s no alternative but to bet on their favorite team and believe in their victory, but could the win actually be predicted? 🔮
AI Business team asked popular chatbots about who will win the NFL. While ChatGPT and Claude refused to tell what their binary brains analyzed, Gemini Advanced by Google eagerly shared its opinion with the disclaimer that “things may change rapidly”. By overviewing the strengths and weaknesses of the players from both teams, the potential collisions and injuries, Gemini gave its unconfident but definite conclusion: “The Chiefs have the slight edge”.
Ryan Morrison, the AI Editor at Tom's Guide also asked ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini about their observations, and luckily, all the three agreed to cooperate and came to the same conclusion: The Chiefs will take the trophy 🏆, and all three added it’ll be a close game (the final score was 25 - 22). Besides the winner, Ryan managed to make the protesting chatbots share the suggested scores, passes and combinations, playoff experience, injuries and coaching records.
🖼 Of course, in sports, there’s much place for unexpected strategic maneuvers, changes of luck, and vagaries of the weather, which can change the course of the game within seconds, but AI analytics still can give a pretty accurate picture with the strengths and weaknesses of all the teams.
It’s just important to have one thing in mind: whether to make a bet on your favorite team or not - that remains the personal responsibility of each human.
🚀 The event season is accelerating after the lazy January, so it’s time to recall the basics of productive networking. Igor Iarunov, Investment Director VC Intema and our valuable event networker tells how preparation and planning help him to make strategic connections.
☝ Preparation
The best improvisation is the prepared one, which is absolutely relatable to networking. All those networking beasts, who seem capable of making connections with any person alive, always remember business goals and make proper homework before the event.r
🔎 First of all, it’s necessary to look at the list of attendees and highlight those with whom it makes sense to meet. Often, organizers simplify this task by offering a special application or a certain algorithm to make appointments in advance with the participants you like.
Speaking of social networks, as a rule, it makes no sense to add them to your connections or friends before meeting them. However, immediately after, it’s a good idea to remind them of yourself. 👋
☝ Advice
To maximize networking opportunities at conferences, consider investing in premium tickets such as 'investor' passes. These often grant access to exclusive areas with a more intimate and conducive environment for meaningful interactions. This strategy can significantly enhance your networking experience by facilitating connections with key stakeholders and industry leaders who are more likely to be present in these specialized zones. 🤝
☝ First connect
A truly valuable connection is the one, which gives value for both people. Think what the person you’d like to connect with is looking for and what you can offer. Startups need money (either investments or assistance in sales), funds need good targets and profitability, and corporations need KPIs. 💰
State your value when you approach the person at the event. Typically, I make it in 1-2 sentences. Now there are two scenarios: it will either hit the target or it won't. Don’t get upset, if the connection doesn’t give the expected results. It’s a long term investment and may pay off months or even years after. 😎
🔐 January 28 is known as Data Privacy Day, called to raise global awareness about the importance of Data Protection. It’s never extra recalling the rules and best practices that will help us keep sensitive information unavailable for fraudsters of all sorts.
What are we really protecting?
👥 There’s a range of digital assets that might get attacked (passwords, NFTs, photos, personal and private information), and two most frequent goals: identity theft and money, often both. Imagine waking up one day and learning that some evil doppelganger of yours was caught in some grand larceny or participated in phone extortions from your phone number. That’s scary as it sounds.
Best practices to increase your data protection.
👍 Set a strong password, which is random and at least 10-12 symbols long. Capital letters, lower case and figures make it stronger. To make sure you don’t forget your password, use Password Managers, that will save you time and nerves
👍 Two-factor authentication - one more effective protection layer. There won’t be any action made in your account that you won’t be aware of, for you’ll need to confirm it personally. In-built systems or apps like Google Authenticator, Twilio, etc
👍 Think twice before sharing your birth date and email address. You never know where this info may end up. Instead use a fake date, we won’t tell anyone and no one will know.
👍 Set a two-factor authentication on your internet banking app. Protect your wallet by all means.
👍 Update apps, browsers and operational systems regularly. New versions almost always include security bug fixes.
👍 Advice - it’s better to keep personal social media accounts limited to a particular circle of people whom you know and trust. The laws touching photos of people are very fluid and your image may get used for various purposes without your consent.
The material was inspired by the recent article in The Conversation: How to protect your data privacy: A digital media expert provides steps you can take and explains why you can’t go it alone.
✊ Global market volatility doesn’t give startup founders a chance to relax, with the survival and self-sufficiency strategy remaining in 2024. For young projects, startup accelerators can become a much-needed springboard in exchange for a share in a company.
💎 Old but gold: Before entering the program, it’s important to carefully read all the conditions, calculate the expenses for the program, including fees (if any), technical and travel costs, weigh on the potential profit from the program, and the amount of the accelerator’s share in the company, especially if one’s planning to raise funding from investors.
If that’s a decided point, here are the major tendencies that one should be aware of when choosing an acceleration program in 2024.
1️⃣ Expertise in AI: the jokes about investors not even looking at non-AI startups in 2024 have a grain of truth. AI has already proved its value, which increases investors' and VCs' trust. If an accelerator has strong AI experts as mentors, technological support, and successful cases - that’s a BIG GREEN FLAG! 💚
2️⃣ Shift to Online Acceleration Programs: The necessity to spend money more rationally often makes startups choose online acceleration programs over traditional offline ones. Moreover, it also opens doors to a global pool of mentors, resources, and networking opportunities. 👩💻
3️⃣ Emphasis on Due Diligence: Another green flag is the opportunity to go through due diligence before entering the program. Startups are seeking assistance and expertise, being pointed into their weak spots to get stronger eventually. It’s valuable beyond acceleration. 🔧
4️⃣ Geo-Aligned Mentorship: Recognizing the significance of localized insights, startups are gravitating towards accelerators where mentors operate within the same geographic scope as their businesses. Experience and local connections always extend beyond facts and numbers, sometimes being hard to explain. 🗺
Embrace these shifts, harness their potential, and propel your startup towards success! 💡💼

What documentaries on AI and future of Tech would you recommend?
People working in Tech rarely look back. Not [only] because we’re cool guys who never look at explosions. Technologies always imply moving forward, innovating, being harder, better, faster, stronger. So Thanks to the upcoming New Year, we made a stop to catch the breath and look at what has been done in 2023.
2023 was the year saved by AI. Literally. Why saved, you would ask. Let’s recall the tech industry in autumn 2022. Mass layoffs numbering hundreds of thousands people left jobless; the bubble, formed by infinite venture money during the Pandemics, blowed. We were at the edge of Global Economic Recession, which seemed inevitable. All of a sudden, in the end of November a young company Open AI introduces ChatGPT, and turns the global course 180 degrees.
2023 started the AI Era. And as an AI accelerdator, VC fund and as people we can’t be more excited about that fact, for we met many innovative and crazy startupers, who have courage to think big and push the boundaries of human opportunities. In 2024 Gen AI will get even more mature and get deeper integrated across the industries.
But let’s get back to 2023. For Intema it was the year of exploration. We explored new markets, new formats, new AI projects and even launched our own one too. Let’s have a closer look.
First, we decided to try a new pilot-oriented acceleration format, instead of venture-oriented. Together with top-level experts, Intema prepared startups and teams for integration in the corporate ecosystems and help them beecome more self-sufficient, for it wasn’t safe relying on venture funding any more. Now we can say it’s been one of the best ideas so far.
The first acceleration program this year was focused on Metaverse projects. Yes, we searched for Metaverse solutions in the midst of AI hype, and it absolutely paid off. It was very refreshing to work with technologies at the intersection of AI and Metaverse, and integrate these solutions in real life.
Another successful acceleration program was focused on Generative AI projects like copilots, chatbots, content generators, and their adaptation to particular business needs. The solutions, which participated in the program, touched a large scope of spheres: Development, ML-Ops, Customer Service, Support, HR, Compliance and more. And of course, this wouldn’t be possible without the knowledge and valuable practical tips from world's top professionals, including experts from Microsoft, Apple Developer Academy, PwC, AWS, and more.
In 2023 we tried on the startuper’s shoes and launched a new project on Product Hunt - The Platform, a digital space which connects startups with investors and corporations. We not only became the 3d Product of the Day, but attracted the attention of global startup community and European Media. Just check it out:
https://www.siliconluxembourg.lu/intema-launches-ai-and-deeptech-ecosystem-networking-platform/
Travels and conferences. In 2023 Intema team were unstoppable! Chine, Hong Kong, Brazil, Oman, UAE, Turkey - it’s not a finite list of our 2023 destinations. Intema experts participated in the world’s top conferences like Emerge, Future Tech Event, Hong Kong Fintech Summit, Gitex Global, South Summit both as guests and speakers.
There’s one more even, worth special mentioning - the Machines Can See conference in Dubai, which Intema is proud to have been a partner of. Next year we are ready to gather again in the Museum of the Future for precious knowledge exchange, powerful networking and big fun.
Well, these were some of the major milestones for Intema in 2023. Before we turn back to the future we want to say a huge THANK YOU to the Intema team. Nothing of the abovementioned was possible without a daily work of big specialists and innovators, always doing their best to become harder, better, faster and stronger.
Thanks, 2023. Next!
🔮 It’s time for Traditional AI Predictions for 2024! Intema experts analysed the market trends, asked the Crystall Ball, made a tarot spread 🃏, and now are ready to present the most accurate AI divination.
AI is no longer a rock star, it’s a Taylor Swift 💃, if you know what we mean. And plenty of factors will contribute to the overall growth of VC activity in the AI field with the increase in the number of AI/GenAI projects in the total volume of venture investments:
🤖 In 2024, it will be significantly less expensive to train your language model. Let's recall the substantial sums that OpenAI spent on training its Chat GPT. Next year, we will see more advanced models that are much more cost-effective to educate.
🤖The relatively unrestricted access to advanced AI models will have a profound impact on technological evolution, something we have yet to fully experience. In 2024, we can expect to see an increase in highly specialized products built with Gen AI, as well as some unexpected, even exotic solutions. For instance, generative business intelligence (BI) applications that utilize the model to comprehend a text query, translate it into SQL, and retrieve valuable Big Data analytics.
🤖Consequently, more and more corporations will adopt AI to automate business processes, and more investors will show interest in projects with a strong AI component. However, it's important to note that investors should have experienced technical guys on their teams to critically evaluate the quality of the technology. There's an old wisdom: not all that glitters is gold, and not everything labeled as AI is a high-quality technology.
What do you think will happen in the AI world in 2024 💬 ?

👀 Each year tech experts take a look at the future and try to see, what can possibly happen to the industry in the upcoming year. The team of Intema decided to see how AI predictions for 2023 passed the test of time. Here’s an overview of 5 of 10 AI predictions made by Rob Toews for Forbes.
1) 🔥 GPT-4 will be released in the next couple months—and yes, it will be a big deal.
Yesss! GPT-4 set the bar for all the market with it’s multimodality (which was predicted) and the human-like communication of the chatbot. What couldn’t be predicted, though, is the effect of the Turbo update…
2) 👨💻 We are going to start running out of data to train large language models.
The prediction, which didn’t happen in 2023, but is expected to sooner or later and will become an obstacle in further training of LLMs. As of The Conversation, we could run out of data to train AI by 2026.
3) 🚗 For the first time, some members of the general public will begin using fully driverless cars as their day-to-day mode of transportation.
Yes and No. This year Waymos and Cruises are already driving the streets of San Francisco, and Tesla drivers tell about the advantages of the hands-free mode. However, not everything got as planned. A SF-based journo from the GUardian told about her experience using Cruise, with self-driving mode available only low-traffic hours and in certain districts. And the time. A 15-minute ride eventually took 45 minute.
4) 💸 Midjourney will raise venture capital funding
Nope. Moreover, David Holz, founder of Midjourney, rejects any venture money. Predicted to “be left behind the golden rush” without fundraising, Midjourney generated $200M in revenue. Wise step!
5) 💲 Many billions of dollars of new investment commitments will be announced to build chip manufacturing facilities in the United States as the U.S. makes contingency plans for Taiwan.
Pretty much! According to MIT, Since January 2023, companies throughout the semiconductor supply chain have announced over $24 billion in investments in the United States. The power of AI chips is the factor which will shape the Generative AI industry in the upcoming future.
The world’s slowing down with the 🔔 jingle-bells flow, but the pulse of innovations is beating steadily 💓 In this Tech Pulse issue by Intema: the new Gemini model by Google, the formation of AI Alliance and “AI” being the word of the year.
👬 Yesterday Google dropped a powerful LLM called Gemini. The model is notable for its multimodality, which allows working with text, code, images, videos, and audio. The reaction of the global media and tech community ranged from skeptical overviews to pure fascination. And it’s not a surprise: the Demo was bright and impressive. 😲
As it later turned out, the demo video was not a screen recording, but an edited piece. We got a bit upset, but nevertheless, if concentrating on the model’s abilities, we’re confident that Gemini will have high demand among content creators 🎨 , who would appreciate the model’s ability to work simultaneously with different content formats.
🤜 🤛 The AI Alliance is being established "to advance open, safe, and responsible AI." Its members intend to create new open-source artificial intelligence models.
Comprising IT corporations, startups, universities, and government organizations, AI Alliance includes notable participants such as IBM and Meta, along with Intel, Sony, Linux, Dell, Oracle, NASA, Harvard, Yale, and Tokyo universities.
The AI Alliance plans to collaborate on AI projects with governments, non-profit, and public organizations.
📚 This year even people far from technologies learned what AI is. Not taking into account the Oxford Dictionary, which probably heard the word “Rizz” more often, prominent global dictionaries marked the influence of the artificial intelligence in their rates.
As of Guardian, Cambridge chose the word “hallucinate”, focusing its announcement on generative AI: “It’s far from perfect as it’s capable of producing false information – hallucinations – and presenting this information as fact.” Collins dictionary didn’t beat around the bush, naming “AI” it’s word of the year. 🤖
