Odile Weber, dedicated botanist @ Musée national d'histoire naturelle Luxembourg - natur musée, contributed her expertise to a paper on agrobiodiversity 🚜 conservation, shedding light💡on an often overlooked aspect of global 🌍 biodiversity – the variety of crops 🌿🌱 we cultivate for food and agriculture.

Scientists from multiple institutions and countries seek to adapt tools traditionally used for wild plant conservation to protect crop diversity. The aim is to safeguard rare and traditional crop varieties, many of which are at risk of extinction.❗️

Why does this matter? Crop diversity is not just about having different foods 🌽🍎🫑🥬on our plates 🍽️. It's a cornerstone of food security, cultural heritage, and our ability to adapt to climate change. Each unique variety carries genetic 🧬traits that could be crucial for developing resilient crops in the face of changing environmental conditions.

Exciting news from the world of paleontology! Paleontologist Ben Thuy @ Musée national d'histoire naturelle Luxembourg - natur musée, and co-author, has recently completed a comprehensive analysis of a remarkable middle Emsian (Early Devonian) fossil flora🌿🌸 from Consthum ⛏️ Quarry in 🇱🇺.
This study offers fascinating insights into plant life approximately 4️⃣0️⃣0️⃣million years ago!🌿🔬.
The diverse plant assemblage contains a variety of ancient plant fossils, including some species previously thought to exist only in 🇨🇦, suggesting that similar plants grew across a wide area and changed slowly over time.
This study provides valuable insights into plant🌱 diversity during a crucial period of terrestrialization, about 4️⃣0️⃣0️⃣ million years ago. It also highlights the need for taxonomic revision of Early Devonian plant fossils in Europe🇪🇺.

Bestimmt kennen sie den „Baum des Jahres“ oder den „Vogel des Jahres“. Seit einigen Jahren wird auch eine „Pflanzengesellschaft des Jahres“ bestimmt, um auf die Schutzwürdigkeit von Pflanzengemeinschaften aufmerksam zu machen.

2024 tragen die Sumpfdotterblumen-Wiesen diesen Titel, da sie stark gefährdet sind und viele seltene Pflanzen- und Tierarten beherbergen. Sie haben zudem eine besondere Bedeutung als Wasser- und Kohlenstoffspeicher sowie für den Grundwasser- und Klimaschutz. Ihr Schutz, sowie Maßnahmen zur Erhaltung und zur Renaturierung sind dringend notwendig!

La conférence sur "Ce que les météorites nous apprennent sur la formation de la Terre" ☄🌎 nous a en effet fait apprendre un tas de choses ce soir :

☑️ Avec 4,567 milliards d’années les inclusions réfractaires des météorites sont les objets les plus âgés jamais mesurés.

☑️ La météorite qui reflète exactement la composition globale du système solaire s’appele « Orgueil ». Mais qu’elle est laide, conclut le conférencier.

☑️ La formation des planètes a été un événement beaucoup plus rapide qu’on a tendance à se l’imaginer.
