Shadow Day is an annual initiative in Latvia encouraging children and young people to familiarise themselves with diverse occupations and work environments.
Over the last week, we at Livonia Print delivered six tours of our production plant, showing over 60 youngsters what a printing house looks like and how it transforms publishers' ideas into tangible books.
Through cooperation between schools and businesses, business shadowing initiatives not only promote the integration of new generations into society and the labour market of tomorrow but also help companies see themselves in a new light. We thoroughly enjoyed answering kids questions about how the books are made 🤓

This year, Livonia Print is starting a new tradition - the Annual Employee Awards. This initiative promotes a culture of ongoing improvement, social well-being and teamwork.

Reflecting on 2023, our employees nominated their peers in 16 different categories, recognizing those who excel, spread positivity, and make significant contributions to our company culture.

The awards recognize and celebrate exceptional employees within each of the many production and support departments. The most prestigious of these nominations, "Employee of the Year 2023", shines a light on a single individual's extraordinary impact. For 2023, it has been awarded to Inga Smagare, who is responsible for sending out the advance copies to our customers. Two nominations were allocated for entire departments, acknowledging the Covers production team as "The Quality Improvers" and the Technical Support and Maintenance team as our "Safety Champions".

TEXT IS NOT OUR TYPE" - an exhibition dedicated to the form and materiality of the book through times is now open at the National Library of Latvia.
A selection of contemporary books, produced at Livonia Print, is featured in the section curated by the Association of Latvian Printing Houses, while materials from the early days of book production history come from the collection of Latvijas Nacionālā bibliotēka / National Library of Latvia .
The main exhibit is built around the historical publications by Nicolaus Mollin, the first book printer in Riga, part of Livonia at that time, and his mentor, Christophe Plantin, an eminent European book printer.
