In one of the most beautiful cities of Latvia - Cēsis - from July 15-21, the World Day of Cēsis will take place. This will be a great moment for residents of Cēsis and all those who feel they belong to Cēsis from all over the world to meet and find ideas in joint conversations on how to make Cēsis an even more attractive place to live and work.

Who made your handbag? There's a lot of talk about fake bags and the exploitation of workers. Unfortunately, the big brands themselves are not any better. We can debate the price, as consumers pay for the brand name, but a different question arises: what about work safety and human rights?

Italian prosecutors in Milan have been investigating the luxury fashion industry, specifically targeting Dior, a subsidiary of LVMH, and Giorgio Armani for their use of subcontractors. These subcontractors, often Chinese-owned firms, were found to exploit workers to produce handbags at a fraction of their retail price. For example, Dior paid $57 for bags sold at $2,780, while Armani paid $99 for bags retailing over $1,900. The investigation revealed workers were made to work in unsafe conditions, often around the clock, and without proper documentation. Consequently, both companies have been placed under judicial administration for a year. The probes highlight systemic labor abuses and unfair competition in the luxury industry.
