🟢 We are happy to share the latest addition to the RGSL Library: "Handbook Industry 4.0: Law, Technology, Society," edited by Walter Frenz. This book provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary look at how the Fourth Industrial Revolution, or Industry 4.0, is shaping law, technology, and society.
More about the book: "The handbook presents an overview of Industry 4.0 and offers solutions for important practical questions. The law and its current challenges regarding data assignment (who owns the data? / EU guidelines), data security, data protection (General Data Protection Regulation), cyberattacks, competition law (right to access vs. monopolists, permissible and prohibited exchanges of information, possible collaborations) is the point of departure. In turn, the book explores peculiarities in specific areas of Industry 4.0 (Internet of Production, mechanical engineering, artificial intelligence, electromobility, autonomous driving, traffic, medical science, construction, energy industry, etc.). The book’s closing section addresses general developments in management, the digital transformation of companies and the world of work, and ethical questions."

Happy to share that the Baltic Yearbook of International Law has been added to one of the biggest bibliographic and citation databases of multidisciplinary scientific publications, Scopus.
It will give a broader audience to the existing and future authors published in the Yearbook, as their articles are already and will be searchable among entries for more than 21,000 journals, 86,000 e-books, 6.8 million conference proceedings, and 27 million patents.
The Yearbook joined the family of legal publications in 2001 as an annual publication containing contributions on topical issues in international law and related fields that are relevant to Baltic affairs and beyond and serving as an essential source of information not available elsewhere on the practices of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in the field of international law. The Yearbook is published in cooperation between the Riga Graduate School of Law and Brill/Nijhoff Publishers under the auspices of the Baltic editorial board.

🔴Our newest acquisition, “The Lawyer’s Style Guide”, is a required reading for all those engaged in the practice and study of law, as well as a helpful source of information for writing research papers and thesis.
"The Lawyer's Style Guide" by Peter Butt covers almost everything students and practitioners need to know about legal writing in order to achieve an effective writing style:
abbreviations, acronyms, active and passive voice, brackets, bullet points, citation methods, cross-referencing, fonts, document design, footnotes, gender-neutral language, numbering systems, plain legal language, punctuation, the use of Latin in law, structures for legal advice and documents, and techniques for editing and proofreading.
Other topics include ambiguity, deeds, definitions, provisos, recitals, simplified outlines, terms of art, tone, and the various principles of legal interpretation.
There have been discussions about the UN Security Council’s inability to take action while genocide, crimes against humanity, and/or war crimes are occurring.
In one of our latest acquisitions the author, Jennifer Trahan, presents a new, major thesis – that when permanent members of the UN Security Council threaten or use their veto power to block measures aimed at preventing or punishing genocide, war crimes or crimes against humanity, they may be acting contrary to international law. She argues that the use or threat of the veto in such situations can contravene fundamental norms of international law, key international conventions and the 'Purposes and Principles' of the United Nations Charter, and suggests ways to challenge the current state of affairs.
