POETRY FROM THE FUTURE #9! Hosted by your favourite volatile “””poet””” Sam Vassallo.

For those unacquainted, PFTF is a monthly gathering for contemporary poetry. Write your own, read someone else’s, or just come bath in the verse du jour. do whatever you want.

This month’s theme is ARRIVAL.

October seeds itself in memory as arrival of school. It is the arrival of Autumn. “Arrival” invites us to explore the moment when journeys end and new beginnings unfold. What awaits at the end of the road? Is arrival a transformation or simply a destination? When will that fu***ng package or promotion arrive?

With each step, we cross thresholds into the unknown, hearing the sound of footsteps on untrodden paths. When does the future truly begin, and who are we when we finally get there? The horizon beckons, yet what lies beyond it? As we arrive, we may find ourselves unpacking more questions than answers, wondering what it means to truly arrive—and who decides when we’ve arrived.

Uh... what?! It’s time for the sixth edition of POETRY FROM THE FUTURE, where we meet to sip on poetry that tugs on our heartstrings and clink (chug) a glass or two on the stairs of Strait Street✨

Punk poet rascal will set the tone of the evening, starting each session off with some poetry, according to the pre-conceived theme. Then, the floor is yours - poets, punks and poetry lovers are invited to share their own verses, drifting to and from the given theme.

The verses can be yours or those of other poets.

This edition the theme is METAMORPHOSIS. It’s Spring, a time of rebirth, transformation, change, of emerging into life from the fertile soils that death conjure. Come read your own verse or a poet you like that you like could fit or nicely rebel against the theme.

Poetry is from the future. Poetry has the power to immortalise, to defy time and place, conjuring new, ethereal moments with every fresh reading.

Rumi presents the third edition of POETRY FROM THE FUTURE.

This is a very special edition of the series. The world has lost a true artist, friend, father, community maker and visionary Zvezdan Reljić. Reljić was an artist in all the senses, and his championing of poetry through his handmade books and publishing house Ede Books will stand the test of time.

For this edition’s theme, we will honour the artist through new and old verse. So get that ink running, fingers typing or dig up anything finished that you connect to Zvezdan.

If you don’t know Zvezdan and want to share your words on the night, you are invited to read the verse (yours or not) celebrating life and love amid loss.

On the night, we also have a special guest Miriam Calleja, a revered Maltese poet living in the US and long-time collaborator with Zvezdan. She will be reading her new poetry chapbook Come Closer, I Don’t Mind the Silence (BottleCap Press) and there will be copies there to make your own!

So come one come all, let’s sip on poetry that tugs on our heartstrings and clink a glass or two... because poetry is from the future. Because poetry has the power to immortalise, to defy time and place, conjuring new, ethereal moments with every fresh reading.
