🗣️ Well done for the students from St Clare College Secondary School - Pembroke following the King's Trust International Achieve Programme Malta for this initiative.

The year 9 students spent a memorable day out, with the elderly residents at Zammit Clapp Home, at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq, a perfect location for both to exchange stories and a laugh or two. The morning kicked off with a lively game of tombla which is a favourite game for both the students and the elderly. This community involvement meant a lot for the King’s Trust students as it embedded a sense of involvement, empathy, and respect.

The students and residents of Zammit Clapp Home have shown that despite the years that separate them, there is much to be gained from spending time together. The delivery of the King’s Trust International Achieve programme was introduced in Malta by the HSBC Malta Foundation.

🗣️ HSBC’s GTRF team members volunteered at the Notarial Archives Foundation in Valletta for their Voluntary Day.

📚 They were split into two teams on two different days, and both enjoyed a hands-on experience in dusting old notarial volumes, being trained and supervised by the Foundation's trained staff members. The HSBC volunteers were impressed with the passion and dedication shown by the Foundation in preserving these historical records, which are unique sources for the history of Malta.

📜 The oldest notarial deed in the collection dates back to 1431. This was a great team-building experience for the HSBC GTRF team and it served as a good break from the office. Both groups were also given a guided tour of the NRA Museum, where they learned new aspects of Maltese history and about the binding processes of volumes.

🗣️ The HSBC Business Financial Crime Risk team spent their voluntary leave day at The National Archives of Malta in Valletta.

In addition to the helping hand the team provided to preserve these priceless registers, it was indeed an educational experience for all of them. The Notarial Registers Archive was established in 1640 under the rule of Grand Master Giovanni Paola Lascaris Castellar and the Archive changed its location and structure throughout its history.

On the day, they received a warm welcome by the Notarial Register Archive team, who explained their task and answered to their curious questions with great enthusiasm. The history behind these records is fascinating, and the Archive is regarded as a unique source of information where facts about our rich social, legal, economic, and art history continue to be discovered till today.

They also had the opportunity to visit their in-house museum, which further enriched their experience.

🗣️ The HSBC Malta Foundation supported the St Ignatius College Careers Advisory Team, who with the support and coordination of the Head of College Network, St Ignatius College Ħandaq Middle School and Ħandaq Secondary School Year 9,10 and 11 together with the Western Community Services have celebrated the end of a pilot project about Maltese Trade Skills.

The Career Advisor and the Head of College Network started brainstorming about this event way back in August 2023. This led to a two-phase event, one held in November 2023 at the Middle School which hosted an exhibition of Maltese trade that is still active within the locality of Qormi, and the other was a project competition to showcase the skills that inspired them most. In being a first, the six submissions that they had were varied and very interesting. Following that, a judging panel interviewed all the students to learn about their projects, thus engaging also in presentation skills.

📜 All the students received a certificate of participation and a flyer showcasing all their work. Three of these works were also given a memento. Thanks to all involved, and we look forward to build on this to provide richer and different experiences to these students. Special thanks go also to the National Skills Council for supporting this project too.

🗣️ The HSBC Sports and Social Committee organised a tour at Il-Fortizza ta' Delimara, which is a polygonal fort in Marsaxlokk.

It was built between 1876 and 1888 by the British as part of a chain of fortifications intended to protect Marsaxlokk Harbour. Today, the fort is still intact but is being restored. The main gate carries a date of 1881, but this is the date of completion of the gatehouse, not the commissioning of the fort.

Fort Delimara was one of a ring of forts and batteries that protected Marsaxlokk harbour, along with Fort Tas-Silġ at the shoreward end of Delimara point, Fort San Lucian on Kbira point in the middle of Marsaxlokk bay, Fort Benghisa on Benghisa Point, and the Pinto and Ferreti batteries on the shores of Marsaxlokk Bay. Kudos to Heritage Malta.

🗣️ Over the past few years, the HSBC Malta Foundation has partnered with MOVE to lead an amazing journey of greening our public spaces and schools through the MOVE for Trees Initiative.

🌲 🌳 Thanks to the unwavering support of individuals who donated their CO2-free KM, we recently planted 128 saplings from 52 different species at Id-Dar tal-Kleru. This was made possible with the invaluable help of The 'Grow 10 Trees' Project and a dedicated group of volunteers. Together, we planted these saplings, each carefully selected to enrich our environment and promote biodiversity.

💦 However, our commitment doesn't end here. To guarantee the growth of these saplings, they are receiving careful watering three times a week. It's truly inspiring to see the collaborative effort of many individuals turning into greener, more sustainable public spaces for the enjoyment of our entire community.

🗣️ A new initiative aimed at harnessing nature-based solutions to address local urban planning challenges has been unveiled by the University of Malta in partnership with architecture firm AP Valletta and with the support of the HSBC Malta Foundation.

The project, Nature-Based Solutions for Urban Resilience, is spearheaded by the Inst. for Climate Change & Sustainable Development - University of Malta. Its primary goal is to implement nature-based strategies to bolster Malta's urban resilience against climate-related challenges, including flooding and urban heat islands. The initiative will commence with a pilot at San Gorg Preca College in Ħamrun, focusing on carbon sequestration and temperature regulation in urban settings. A key component of the project is the development of a toolkit designed to facilitate the replication of these solutions on a national scale.

Following the design phase of the pilot project, a partnership with Project Green will ensure the effective implementation of the strategies at the college, with a thorough assessment of the environmental impact and the level of community engagement.

The HSBC Malta Foundation is proud to be supporting the project, which resonates with its commitment to promoting environmental awareness and advancing sustainable practices across society. This initiative marks a significant step towards the integration of nature-based solutions into Malta's urban development strategies, establishing a model for future sustainable development projects.

🗣️ The HSBC Internal Audit Team decided to spend their Voluntary Leave Day by giving a helping hand to The Malta Autism Centre in Mosta.

The 7 team members were greeted early in the morning by Dr Melvin, Dr Yanika and Miles the therapy dog who is a goofy gentle 1-year old golden retriever. Dr Melvin gave an introduction of what is being done at the Malta Autism Centre. The Doctors together with the tutors and therapists and of course Miles are on a mission to help autistic individuals from toddlers to adults through therapy sessions and social activities.

They are also raising awareness about the difficulties faced by individuals on the autism spectrum and how the community can adapt and understand this neurodiverse condition. In doing so, they are also trying to bring up to standard the centre which is being upgraded bit by bit.

The team was asked to clear up the garden from all sorts of debris so that it can be changed into an interactive sensory space for autistic individuals. After they cleared the garden, they were asked to assist to clear up some bulk refuse and transport it to the lower grounds for disposal.

🗣️ Even more CO2-Free kilometres have been transformed into trees, enriching the space migrants call home, making it greener and more liveable.

🌲 🌳 This time, AWAS (Agency for the Welfare of Asylum Seekers) employees, MOVE volunteers, and migrant residents joined forces to plant 150 indigenous trees from żnuber to deru, rummien, and more. It was a beautiful sight to see everyone, regardless of background or nationality, coming together to work toward a shared vision of a brighter future.

🙏 A heartfelt thank you to all who participated and contributed by donating their active CO2-free kilometres to the MOVE for Trees initiative. Your dedication to creating a sustainable and inclusive environment are deeply appreciated.

The trees are being supported by the HSBC Malta Foundation.
