The Concept of Wymit.
A less technical explanation of the idea behind the Wymit software. (A 3-minute read.)
First to be understood is the goal of this whole thing. The goal is online payments! We wanna build technology that will help developers accept payments on their websites.
Now, in order to have a functional online-payments system, there are two foundational requirements.
1. You need to have a digital form of currency.
2. You need to be able to transfer those digital funds and to notify involved parties after a fund-transfer transaction.
Now, in our quest to build an online-payments system, we could go make our own digital currency, (I don't have the funds for that though). But more importantly, we already have popular digital forms of currency in the name of mobile money. So we could simply use that. And that fulfills the first requirement.
Interestingly, mobile wallets also kinda fulfill the second requirement, in that they notify involved parties after a funds-transfer transaction. They send SMSs; SMSs to your phone. Unless you're hosting your website on your phone, those SMSs are no gonna help as far online payments are concerned. Right? And that's where the concept of Wymit comes in.
**The concept of Wymit is to have a unit that relays/forwards these mobile money SMSs to a given website. The website then can use that data to process payments.** (The unit should run 24/7 so that it continues receiving the SMSs, and should have software that will relay the SMSs.) So then a customer will send funds the usual way, but the developer will not just receive an SMS on a phone, rather, he will have an API call on his website.
(In the process of relaying the SMSs, it kinda becomes obvious that instead of forwarding the whole SMS, we should rather just pick out the interesting parts like who sent the funds, how much was sent, etcetera, and pack them in an easy-to-process format like JSON. And that's exactly what Wymit does!)
In essence, that's the concept of Wymit. It is a simple thing, but very powerful. And it has been coded out into a commercial and proprietary piece of software called Wymit. (See, if you're excited about people paying you, then you gotta be willing to pay for the software that will help you achieve that.)
Smart, easy-to-use, multi-platform, with support for unlimited mobile wallets, and an elegant piece of documentation, plus many more other great features, the Wymit software can be summarized into one word, QUALITY! Quality unabashed!
