ENGAGEMENT OF 3,500 AUXILIARY TEACHERS
The Ministry of Education, through the Malawi Education Reform Programme (MERP), with support from the World Bank, has allocated funds to engage Three Thousand Five Hundred (3,500) Auxiliary Teachers from the Initial Primary Teacher Education (IPTE), cohorts 13 and 14, to be placed in various Primary Schools across the Thirty-Four (34) education districts in the country. This is part of the efforts by government to create employment to this sector of the population.
Engagement of the teachers will be done directly by School Management Committees (SMCs) and will be on temporary basis. The contract period for this engagement is one academic year. Subject to funding opportunities, the contracts may be renewed.
Interested teachers in the named cohorts should call at Local Council Offices of their choice taking into account that every local council has its own allocation. Consideration for engagement to a particular school will be on a first come first served basis. Upon engagement, transfers from one school to another will not be allowed throughout the agreed period.
Due to the urgency of this activity, interested candidates must indicate their availability by 1st September, 2022. Successful applicants will be expected to start working when schools re-open during the month of October, 2022.
Lists of schools and their contacts have been sent to all District Education Offices, Education Divisions, and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) where interested applicant can access them. It should be noted that it will be a requirement to present to the Headteacher original IPTE Certificate as proof of having attended the mentioned cohorts.
Details for this recruitment are available at all Local Council offices.

About 3 thousand teachers under the Initial Primary Teacher Education βIPTE 12 are yet to receive arrears amounting to 390 million kwacha, MIJ Online has learnt.
Last year, government rolled out an exercise of recruiting 3,600 primary school teachers that were under the last cohort of IPTE-12.
The then principal secretary for the Ministry of Education had indicated that the funding for the recruitment of the teachers was included in the 1.7 trillion kwacha 2019-2020 National Budget.
This meant that government was supposed to spend about 394 million kwacha as salary for the 3,600 primary school teachers for the month of November.
However, this is not the case as according to Sam Kachimanga, one of the concerned teachers government is yet to pay their first salary.
Speaking to MIJ Online, Kachimanga said the entry point salary for primary school teachers in the civil service is grade L with a starting salary of about 109 thousand kwacha a month.
"Government has been making assurances that the arrears would be settled, but that has not been the case until now,"said Kachimanga.
Officials at the Ministry of Education were yet to comment when this post was published.
