Malawi's female football player, Temwa Chawinga is the 2023 women's world best goalscorer, as reported by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), becoming the first non-European female footballer to achieve this feat.
Chawinga who plays for Wuhan Jiangda in China, has scored 51 goals for Wuhan Jiangda in all competitions this season.
She won the Golden Boot Award in the Chinese Super League with 30 goals, in the Chinese National Cup with 15 goals, and also achieved the same feat in the Chinese FA Cup with six goals.
Chawinga also added 12 goals for her national team at the recent COSAFA tournament in South Africa where she also won the COSAFA Golden Boot.
She has ended the 2023 calendar year with 63 goals in all games she has played, nine more than the male world-leading goalscorer, Cristiano Ronaldo who has scored 54 goals for club and country.

The Malawi Cricket national team has qualified for the semi-final of the ACA T20 Africa cup after they won against Rwanda by 46 runs.
The result means the team will face Kenya tomorrow to determine who will make it to the final. The other semi-final match is between Botswana and Uganda

Currently a health walk from Bunyenga village to Malonda primary school is underway.
The events that will take place at Malonda primary school include netball, football, wheelchair race, aerobics, Volleyball, athletics, skipping, traditional dances and walking race for the elderly and many other activities.
MNCS introduced the Sport for All program with the aim of encouraging the citizenly to take part in sport and physical activities regardless of gender, age or ability.
CLARIFICATION OVER GIRLS’ BRONZE MEDAL MATCH AT CAF ASFC COSAFA QUALIFIERS
Following interrogation of the tie-breaker regulations and discussion with the CAF Schools Department, Mozambique will contest the bronze-medal match against Namibia in the Girls’ competition at the African Schools Football Championship zonal qualifiers on Saturday.
Malawi will take no further part in the Girls’ event having been eliminated but their Boys’ team will meet South Africa in the final of that competition. South Africa will take on Botswana in the decider for the Girls’ gold medal.
The matches will be played at Gateway High School in Harare with entrance for spectators free of charge.

After the successful re-launch of the Sport for All Program in Ntcheu where Inkosi Gomani V was unveiled as the ambassador of the initiative, the Malawi National Council of Sports (MNCS) has embarked on follow up activities in order to ensure that there is mass participation and sustainability of the program.
On Saturday 16 December, 2023 MNCS will conduct a Sport for All event at Senior Chief Makwangwala area in Ntcheu. The aim of the event is to encourage the citizenly to continue taking part in sport and physical exercises as only healthy citizens can contribute to the development of the country.
Events of the day will start with a healthy walk from Bunyenga village to malonda primary school where activities shall take place from 8:00am and they include netball, football, wheelchair race, aerobics, Volleyball, athletics, skipping, traditional dances and walking race for the elderly and many other activities.
MNCS introduced the Sport for All program with the aim of encouraging the citizenly to take part in sport and physical activities regardless of gender, age or ability.

Reform Areas
The MNCS is implementing six (6) Reform Areas, namely:
Reform Area 1: Revamping School Sport;
Reform Area 2: Introduction of Automated Gate Fees Collection System;
Reform Area 3: Legal Reform- Revision of the Malawi National Council of Sports Act of 1974;
Reform Area 4: Rejuvenating Sports in the Country;
Reform Area 5: Enhancing Financial Sustainability of the Council; and
Reform Area 6: Increasing Corporate Visibility of the Council.
Progress Made
MNCS has registered progress in implementing five of its Reform Areas (Reform Areas 1,3,4,5 and 6).
i) Reform Area 1: Revamping School Sport. MNCS has revamped school sports where the National Youth Games have started across the country. Some of the beneficiaries were included in the team that participated at the AUSC Region 5 under 20 youth games held in December where Malawi won 29 medals. Malawi also hosted the AUSC Regional 5 games of 2022.
ii) Reform Area 3: Legal Reform- Revision of the Malawi National Council of Sports Act of 1974. A draft Act of the Malawi National Council of Sports Act of (1974) has been submitted to Ministry of Youth and Sport for their onward transmission to the Ministry of Justice for approval.
iii) Reform Area 4: Rejuvenating Sports in the Country. The Sports for All Program was launched in October 2021 at Uliwa Primary School Ground in Karonga to rejuvenate sports in the country.
iv) Reform Area 5: Enhancing Financial Sustainability of the Council. Sports Administrators were trained in resource mobilization and financial management in April 2021 to enhance the Council’s financial sustainability and a new Events Garden was commissioned to expand MNCS revenue base.
v) Reform Area 6: Increasing Corporate Visibility of the Council. A website and social media pages have been developed and the Public Relations is frequently engaging with media houses to increase the council’s visibility. Billboards were also erected in implementing Reform Area 6 to increase MNCS’s corporate visibility.
Benefits of Implementing the Reform Areas
The following are the benefits of implementing these Reform Areas:
i) Improved physical fitness and mentally active of the nation.
ii) Improved regulation of Sports in Associations operating in Malawi.
iii) Enhanced catchment area for talent identification.
iv) Improved performance at regional and/or international level.
v) Increased awareness of the existence and functions of the Council.
The Malawi schools under 15 boys and girls teams return to action today in the CAF Africa Schools football championship- Cosafa qualifiers.
They play against Botswana at 10:00 am and finish group matches with a game against Eswatini at 16:00.
