WNRCRT ATTENDS THE 2023 URI SOUTHERN REGION AFRICAN ASSEMBLY IN JOHANNESBUERG, SOUTH AFRICA

Wildlife and Natural Resources Conservation and Rehabilitation Trust attended the two days 2023 United Religious Initiative Southern African Regional Assembly in Johannesburg, South Africa from Wednesday 08th November 2023 to Thursday 09th November 2023. The purpose of the assembly was to bring together different cooperation circles in the region to share their more about their activities, experiences, opportunities, challenges and future plans. Wildlife Cooperation circle was represented by its programs coordinator, Alexander Zenasi who share some of the projects conducted in the 2021/2022 season which among some include Lilongwe catchment area afforestation works, youth interfaith cultural events, market clean up campaigns and fight against plastic pollution campaigns.

Some of the topics covered during the assembly include benefits and learnings from URI, regional updates and future plans, strengthening communication in the URI Network, fundraising workshop, connecting with global network and mindful art. The meeting has helped Wildlife organization in learning more from what other Cooperation circles are doing in developing their communities, access to information about fundraising opportunities and networking with other cooperation circles. The organization appreciates the united religious initiative southern region office for providing the memorable platform for positive and fruitful interactions.

Wildlife and Natural Resources Conservation and Rehabilitation Trust (WNRCRT) is a Lilongwe based wildlife and environmental interfaith non-profit making organization registered by the Malawi Government in 2019.

The organization was founded by a group of passionate young men and women concerned with the degree at which environmental and natural resources are being degraded in Malawi.

With financial support from United Religions Initiative, Wildlife and Natural Resources Conservation and Rehabilitation Trust (WNRCRT) led the youth over the weekend in a market clean-up campaign at Chigwirizano market.

The exercise was part of the annual commemoration for the World Environment Day which falls on 5th June, and this this year’s was observed under the theme “Beating plastic pollution”.

WNRCRT Director of Environmental Conservation Emmanuel Phiri said that they thought of working with youth in Chinsapo and surrounding areas to advocate against the use of thin plastics and promote proper hygiene and sanitation in the targeted market place.

After the cleanup exercise, an Environmental marching was conducted from Chigwirizano market to Chinsapo 2, displaying different messages to the public through placards advocating against plastic pollution and the need for clean and health environment for everyone.
