Jacaranda Foundation and School in Malawi
The Jacaranda School educates underprivileged children in Malawi and transforms their communities.
The Jacaranda School for Orphans, located outside of Limbe, Malawi, was founded by Marie Da Silva. The school and its supporting foundation are named after the jacaranda tree, a tree that blossomed outside the hospital window of Marie’s father who died in 1997. To Marie, the jacaranda tree symbolizes life, growth and hope, important symbols for our students who are rooted at the Jacaranda School a

As Jacaranda School for Orphans continues to develop its education support and scholarship portfolio, an opportunity has arisen at its secretariat in Chigumula, Blantyre for a position of: Resource Mobilization and Strategy Development Assistant to work within the Resource Mobilization and Strategy Development unit as follows:
Jacaranda. 👏🏽💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
An opportunity has opened for Kukana Kuba Kasambwe Band to make their first trip to United States of America (USA) later this year courtesy of the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass Moca).
The band comprises Fatsani Kennedy, Joseph Wayson Msofi and Konzani Chikwata
A letter from Mass Moca signed by The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art Director of Performing Arts, Sue Killam says the band will travel to the museum to record and present a community sharing of a musical album from November 7 to December 7 2024.
Mass Moca has partnered Jacaranda Foundation and Hen House Studios led by producer Harlan Steinberger to take the band to USA.
Steinberger, who recorded Keturah's self titled album, says that his recent visit to Malawi to record at Jacaranda Studios at Chigumula in Blantyre under the direction of Luc Deschamps and Marie Da Silva proved to be fruitful.
He adds it surpassed all expectations; recording 16 bands totalling 85 songs in 10 days.
He says Malawian musicians proved to be talented and proficient in the studio and that he was inspired by Kasambwe, which was among the acts that he recorded.
"They were great to work with and I am excited that they will be coming to United States of America this November to record with me again in connection with Studio 9," he says.

hank you Shriners Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia for taking care of Jacaranda School learner Pius - and many children from around the world. We pray for healing for all the children. 🙏🏾
And it's now our Form 2 students (Grade 10) who are writing their national exams (Junior Certificate Examination). Two weeks, right here at Jacaranda Foundation and School in Malawi, together with students from surrounding schools as we are a center for exams. Best wishes to all!
Sugarcane harvesting at Jacaranda School Farm.
And this is not it. There is more.
Has to be done in at least 3 days. Lots of sugarcane this year.
So when they harvest, everyone at the school gets to taste what they had planted.
And the rest is sold to buy the next seeds for more crops.
I understand the next seeds are Carrot seeds and Broccoli.
Jacaranda School student photographers.
These photos are taken by first time students photography class.
Throughout the years we had friends who are photographers visit our school and teach students photography.
We then identified kids who loved photography and assigned them to be the school photographers, taking turns in handling the camera.
We have never had to hire a photographer at Jacaranda School.
Happy to say we have now introduced photography as a lesson in after school classes.
Yesterday was their first lesson with a photographer teacher who will be be coming to work with the students each week.
Take a look their first photography. class.
Thank you Rob Burke.

Join us this week Thursday at Sounds of Malawi acoustic sessions as we revive Mitambo Band. The history of Malawian music would never be complete without tracing the roots of Patrick Simakweli and Mitambo Band. Francis on bass and Innocent on drums. Make a date with us !
This is why these exchange trips are important for both sides.
Friendship between two schools miles away from each other. But so close when they visit each other.💜💜💜.
Great article on the Prosthetic hands workshop our students did with their friends from Ridley College!
Thank you MBC TV, national TV of Malawi for featuring teacher and Jacaranda board member Rob Burke, Ugandan student Nantume from Ridley College and Jacaranda director Luc Deschamps on their morning show today, to talk about Jacaranda School's partnership with Ridley College, and in particular the workshop students did yesterday on assembling prosthetic hands. Nantume had inspiring words for the students of Jacaranda and Malawi and feels like 'being home'. 🇨🇦🇲🇼
It's a celebration! A very special Sounds of Malawi Acoustic Sessions Showcase this Thursday at Jacaranda Cultural Center and Maison de la France, featuring: The hypnotic traditional rhythms of Kasambwe Brothers - the energy, joy and dances of the children of the Jacaranda Cultural Troupe - and the powerful, deep, new, ancient voice of Africa, Keturah. 🔥🪘💜
Congratulations to our Jacaranda school graduate Idah Geoffrey who has graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Social Sciences, from The African Leadership Academy in Mauritius.
Does her mission statement sound familiar?
Idah an orphan herself, studied and graduated from the Jacaranda School for Orphans.
And today she has chosen to replicate that for other orphaned children in Malawi.
This brings joy to my heart.
Idah is one of our 18 students who were granted a MasterCard Full Scholarship to study in various Universities around Africa. 🙏🏼💜👏🏽 Idah Geoffrey, Dory Streett
Our Story
The Jacaranda School for Orphans, located outside of Limbe, Malawi, was founded by Marie Da Silva. The school and its supporting foundation are named after the jacaranda tree, a tree that blossomed outside the hospital window of Marie’s father who died in 1997. To Marie, the jacaranda tree symbolizes life, growth and hope, important symbols for our students who are rooted at the Jacaranda School and flourish with its academic, enrichment and vocational opportunities.
In 2002, while working as a nanny in the U.S., Marie learned that the school in her hometown was going to close. She urged her mother to let the students gather and learn in their family home using Marie’s financial support from abroad. Marie wanted to provide the most vulnerable children, children who have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS, with a quality education and all the supportive services they need to thrive.
In 2008, Marie was named a CNN Hero, an award given to “everyday people doing extraordinary things to change the world.”
Today, the Jacaranda Foundation operates several programs:
