Female leatherback turtles are among the world’s most intrepid creatures, making journeys as far as 10,000 miles after nesting to find food in far-away seas.

But traveling such a long way means encountering threats that can be fatal: fishing nets, poachers, pollution and waters warmed by the climate crisis, which force the turtles to travel even further to find their prey.

These turtles are just one of hundreds of migratory species – those that make remarkable journeys each year across land, rivers and oceans – that are facing extinction because of human interference, according to a landmark UN agency report. Read more: https://cnn.it/49cxuT4

WHERE NATURE AND CULTURE MEETS
(Iron Smelting Furnace)

This 2.2m high and 100+ years old furnace is situated inside Kasungu National Park, ((MAZA TFCA (the extension of transfrontier conservation area of Kasungu National Park in Malawi and Lukusuzi National Park in Zambia)).

This area used to be part of the Chewa heartland , with communities thriving there before both territories gazetted their respective portions into National parks during the reign of the Late Dr. H. Kamuzu Banda, the first president of Malawi. The furnace used to melt rocks and other metals to form various farming and hunting tools

Make it your bucket list, Visit Kasungu National Park (Malawi) and RETURN NOT until you see this Man made historical structure.

WHY BIRD WATCHING/BIRDING?

Firstly, Birdwatching, or birding, is the observing of birds, either as a recreational activity or as a form of citizen science. A birdwatcher may observe by using their naked eye, by using a visual enhancement device like binoculars or a telescope, by listening for bird sounds or by watching public webcams.

SIGNIFICANCE OF BIRDWATCHING

1. Provides an intimate connection between people and their natural environment.
- This fosters its preservation and conservation.

2. It is a niche market of nature-based tourism.
- It is a good tourism market diversification and mitigative approach to tourism seasonality.

3. As nature-based tourism, Birdwatching brings economic resources to local community.

4. Birdwatching offers recreation and pleasure

5. Birdwatching offers relief and mind refreshment.

6. Birdwatching offers nature based-knowledge
