During my industrial attachments at Kasungu National Park (Malawi), we were visited by this Big Elephant Bull. He is nicknamed Landlord, because of his tendancy of visiting students hostels every monthend, funny right?😅😅😅. He is always alone.😀 One day I will expose the reason behind this solitary(lonely) life among male elephants (bulls). Just Like and Follow my page Symon-Nature-Son so that you don't miss it.

DO YOU KNOW THE SLEEPING HABIT OF ELEPHANTS? Elephants in zoos sleep for 4-6 hours a day. However in their natural habitat they only sleep for 2 hours on average to extends their time of feeding since they need 300kg of food every 24 hours. Sometimes they don't sleep at all for 46 consecutive hours and covers a distance of 30km searching for food and keeping distance from their predators. HOW DO THEY SLEEP THEN? 1. They lie down though not more often, as this requires more energy for them to come back to their feet. They can only be seen lying down once in 3 or 4 days. 2. They lean on a tree/which is more like sleeping while standing up. This helps them to spare some energy.(refer to point one above) 3. They lay on a termite mound. This also helps them to wake up with easiness.

DID YOU KNOW? African Elephants🐘 have the longest gestation period out of all terrestrial mammals. Yes for up to 645 days, that's about 22 months on average, female elephants do carry their pregnancy. WHY IS IT SO? Baby elephants do develop slowly in the womb because of their physical size but also because of the size of their intellect. The calf (new born elephant) weighs about 90-120 Kg and feed on breast milk for more than 2 years. Symon-Nature-Son
