What is root canal therapy?
Root canal treatment is designed to correct disorders in the dental pulp - the soft tissue inside the center of the tooth. The dental pulp contains nerves, blood vessels and connective tissue. In teeth with abscesses or infection, the nerves were removed. But now, in 95 percent of these cases of pulp infection, the natural tooth can be saved by modern endodontic procedures. Also called pulp specialists, endodontists have received specialized training to perform root canal therapy.
What causes pulp nerve damage?
The most common causes of damage to the pulp nerve are:
o Infection This is usually caused by tooth decay (cavities) reaching the nerve or a broken tooth. Both situations can allow harmful bacteria to reach the nerve, resulting in its infection and destruction.
o Trauma. A blow to the tooth or jaw can cause damage to the sensitive nerve tissue inside the tooth.
What are the signs and symptoms of pulp nerve damage?
The following are the most common signs and symptoms of pulpal nerve damage. However, each individual may experience them differently. Signs and symptoms may include:
o Pain in teeth when biting
o Pain in teeth when chewing
o Tooth sensitivity to hot or cold drinks
o Swelling of the face.
