Best advice I can give any athlete regardless of their sport is this.
If 2 athletes are equally skilled and competing against each other, the slightly undertrained athlete will win most of the time over an overtrained athlete. Simply because the undertrained can push a little harder on GameDay. Whereas the overtrained left all their reserve back in training.
Not enough coaches and athletes know this.
There are 4 pillars to focus on if you want a healthy and happy life.
1️⃣ Mind State and Emotions 😁
2️⃣ Movement 🏄♀️
3️⃣ Nutrition 🥘
4️⃣ Recovery 🧘
But the pillar that holds the most weight is 1️⃣.
If you are not happy inside, then the things you do outside for health and happiness will be difficult too sustain. Start with your mind state and emotions.
Understanding what is going on inside you is key.
First off, go see a doctor if you think you have a serious injury like a torn ligament or broken bone. 🤕
A good orthopedic surgeon 👩⚕️is a great resource for not just getting you out of pain, but having you move like your did before the injury. 🏃🏿♂️
That being said, there are things you can do to speed up your recovery once you know what you are dealing with. This applies regardless of whether you are dealing with sprains, tears, breaks or bruises.
You might be surprised by my recommendation for using digestive enzymes. Research shows that taking enzymes on an empty stomach can speed up recovery because the enzymes will break down scar tissue that can sometimes build up around an injury site. It's nothing short of a miracle when you think about all the beautiful and amazing things your liver does for your body to function.
But we constantly abuse it and make its job harder with things like

The majority of clients I work with are people that had injuries or conditions that prevented them from training.
I really believe that you can come back from practically any injury. But it's important to be patient. Most importantly, never forget that it's your body. You are the boss. All the health professionals around you should be looked at as consultants, not Gods that know everything. Cause they don't.
If anyone is the God in this scenario, it's you. And your health team are your servants. 😉
The order in which you do your exercises matters.
I'm seeing a lot of people begin workouts by isolating their abdominals and training their abs to exhaustion. This could be dangerous if you are going to follow up with multi-joint exercises that will also demand a lot from your core in terms of stabilization.
The same goes for isolating biceps, triceps, shoulders, quads, hamstrings, calves, etc. Isolate after you do complex exercises like squats, deadlifts, bench press, burpees and overhead presses.

There's talk in the world of an economic crisis, wars, political controversies, conspiracies, and a sense that things are not well.
But I would argue that this has been a long time in the making. We have not made our health a priority for more than a generation. Just look at what we feed our children in school, or what we feed ourselves most meals of the weak.
Just look at how active we are compared to the previous cell-phone Era.
And the poorest people are suffering the most.
How can we make responsible decisions about our lives, the country, and the world, when we don't operate response-able bodies.

If you are an athlete, then training in the gym should be sport specific. The endurance training a soccer player needs for long games will be drastically different from the power training a baseball player requires.
The body has 3 energy systems. ATP, Glycolytic and Fat. It blows my mind how often training coaches fail to consider this when making programs for their athletes.
If you are not stretching, then you will inevitably run into trouble. Identify your tight muscles and stretch them to have a pain-free body with optimal posture.
I've experimented with many different ways of training over the last 20 years. I have found that breaking down each workout into these 5 phases as the most efficient, effective, and safe way to train.
Begin with mobility to wake up your muscles and promote spinal health. Self massage is important for releasing any trigger points. Stretches should then be done by most people. But not if you are hypermobile. Then do your resistance training. And I always finish with core.
Every sport will have physical effects on the athlete's body, and not always in a good way. Boxers tend to have forward head posture, rounded shoulders and weak rhomboids. Check out my video to see how you can correct this.
Hyper-Extended Knees are present in a lot of people. And it's especially a problem if it's causing pain and discomfort. Here's a video where I run you through things you can do to correct hyper-Extended Knees.
This is the first thing I would look at for SI and other hip pains.
SI Joint Pain is something that I often see in clients. Some of the symptoms are pain in the lower back, buttocks, hips, weakness and more. Over the years, I have come to some conclusions about the cause and how to get rid of this condition that differs from most therapists. Stay tuned.
