Calle 38 (38th St) is one of our favorite destinations in Playa (thanks to Lora Miller)! And only five-ish blocks from the condo. Amazing restaurants and fun bars nestled into the jungle and cenotes. Come down and go for a stroll!

KIDS! Anyone in the Minnesota/North Iowa area, there are some great direct flights to Cancun! Check out this long weekend after Thanksgiving! Excellent flight times, too, which I really look for.

The beach in front of the condo, and all of Playa, has never been in BETTER shape! This month while sipping our drinks in the water we compared it to the Virgin Islands. It's whale shark season! One of the best parts of our first summer season trip was taking part in a whale shark encounter. Bucket list for sure! I can help you navigate from our condo to a tour, step by step. Added bonus: a few hours on delightful Isla Mujeres!!

Isla Mujeres Whale Shark Season Expected To Be One Of The Busiest On Record More and more travelers are beginning to book whale shark tours for the upcoming season, which begins on May 15.

So excited to show off some of the updates in the condo! Don't notice much? Changes seem imperceptible? Good! Fresh coat of paint, modern but subtle color change in furniture and accents. You should notice the beach and the palm trees, not the gold and rust colored accent walls with lime green lamp shades! My most favorite part: LAUNDRY!!

….rinse and repeat!

Wake up, grab your coffee, and head to the rooftop to watch the sun come up.
Head down to the beach for a morning stroll in the sand OR get your sneakers on for a power walk down 5th as the shops start to open OR mix a mimosa and slip into the plunge pool to start your day with self care.
Grab a seat at any restaurant along Avenida 5, order some chilaquiles for breakfast, and people watch OR head to the Selecto Super Chedraui for gourmet fixings to whip up brunch in the condo.
Pack up your beach bag, fill your cooler, and grab the (complimentary) beach chairs for a day in the sun and surf OR grab just your wallet and sun block and head to one of the great beach clubs, letting them spoil you with chairs, umbrellas, music, drinks, and food!
Once you are all crispy from rays and salt air, take a nap in the air conditioned condo OR watch the neighborhood activities from one of the palapa covered balconies.
When it’s time for dinner, stroll north on Avenida 5 to Calle 38, where you will find half a dozen great restaurants nestled into the jungle, maybe situated around a babbling cenote OR make your way along the beach in either direction to enjoy dinner by the water at one of the many beach clubs-turned-dinner establishment OR venture off of 5th and the beach into one of the side streets or deeper avenues for many more delicious dinner options.
After dinner enjoy the sights and sounds of 5th Ave once again. The street performers, shops, and especially the bars and restaurants with live music. From rock to reggae to crooning songwriters, there is something for everyone.
At the end of the night, after you have had ice cream from Aldo, enjoy the view of the moon over the Caribbean from the rooftop terrace. The perfect place to start, and finish, your day.

renting a biciplaya bike and scooting along the bike path on 10th Ave
Visiting the Frida Kahlo museum on 5th Ave
Parasailing or renting a jet ski from the beach

After enjoying several days of different versions of the above plan, if you are curious about day trips, might we suggest one of these:

Isla Mujeres: start out early to catch a ferry in Cancun.
Akumal: beautiful beach with some of the easiest and nicest snorkeling from shore. Sea Turtles!
Xel Ha: our favorite, laid back eco park.
Charter a private, or join a group, catamaran trip to show you the beauty of the open water.

A few improvements we made, plus more that we don’t even have pictures of yet! New art, new pillows, recovered cushions on the roof! And a fresh coat of paint last week….no more accent walls/insets!

Our Top 10 favorite things to do in Playa del Carmen:
10) Spend a day at one of the jungle/beach adventure parks.
9) Walk the shops, bars, and restaurants of 5th Avenue.
8) SCUBA and snorkel the Great Mayan Reef
7) Take a day trip to Isla Mujeres (I hear Holbox is nice too!).
6) Excursion to some Mayan ruins and swim in the cenotes, they're everywhere!
5) Take a stroll OFF 5th Avenue and find even better bars and restaurants.
4) Back on 5th: take a seat near the street at any old joint, grab a cocktail or snack, and people watch for days.
3) Enjoy a cup of coffee on the rooftop while the sun rises.
2) Enjoy a cerveza or glass of wine on the rooftop while the sun sets.
1) Hit the beach, of course!!
