OUR STORY

Our first trip to the Cozumel changed our lives forever. It was one of the top items on our “places to visit bucket list” because we wanted to experience the diving in Cozumel. Sharon actually received her PADI certification here on the island with Blue Magic Scuba. The exceptionally clear waters, astounding reefs and easy drift dives puts Cozumel high on many divers’ bucket lists-us included. And when it comes to snorkeling? Cozumel´s reefs are acknowledged as some of the best in the world and snorkelers are never disappointed!

We were hooked from day one.

When we traveled to Cozumel, Mexico for the first time, we were lucky to find a great vacation package which gave us cheap airfare AND included the hotel. That first bit of travel luck got us to our dream destination in San Miguel de Cozumel! We stayed at an all-inclusive resort and enjoyed every moment of our Caribbean vacation. We never dreamed there would be so many things to do in Cozumel!

As we explored this amazing island, we discovered that Cozumel has MANY things to offer. Such as the culture of the people, the most exquisite beaches to explore, the Caribbean breeze and the ocean, feeling the energy and excitement of the tourists as they debark from the cruise ships, trips to the mainland and so much more! And the FOOD! The dining in Cozumel is some of the absolute best in the world (in our humble opinion)!

We left the island and immediately started making plans to get another vacation on the calendar ASAP! We decided we wanted to consider other places to stay in Cozumel. So we thought we would try an Airbnb. The next time we visited we “stayed like locals” and loved it even more.

As we explored more of Cozumel, we started thinking very seriously about what it would be like to own property and actually live on the island. Everything started there. We put our heads (and our hearts) together and prepared to start our journey. We had operated a short-term housing business in Nashville for several years with great success. So for us, it seemed a natural progression to think about owning and operating a vacation rental in Cozumel.

We began an earnest search for the right property, one that we could be proud to own and enjoy sharing with guests from all over the world. We could say that we found Villa Zaztun but it’s truer that Zaztun found us. This Villa has a special place in our hearts. We spent hours on the roof, looking over the city of San Miguel, and had long conversation about our vision for Villa Zaztun and the level of enjoyment we would strive for our guests to experience here.

We want everyone who visits Cozumel to fall in love with “The Island of the Swallows” as much as we have. And we want everyone who stays at Villa Zaztun to feel like they have come “home”.
