In a new effort to showcase our program participants, today, and for the next several Friday’s through the end of summer, we want to give a shout out to taggers making a difference in our program. Today, we are pleased to share with our network that Captain Mario Emilio, owner and operator of Abrimar Fishing Adventures in Cozumel, Mexico, has been a steady participant since 2020. In addition, just this year, Captain Emilio started to participate in our vessel catch and effort research whereby we now receive tracks for all of Captain Emilio’s fishing outings. By combining tagging (yellow ovals in diagram), catch, and effort data we can better understand offshore fishery dynamics in this part of the western Caribbean Sea which will also allow for comparison to other regions where we have active participants.
