Happy 1 year anniversary to My Queen. It was so hard to just pick just 10 pictures of our first year of love and life together. Just like it’s hard to find the words in just this post, which is wild because we communicate so well it’s almost telepathic. I’ll start with this:

I love you. ❤️ Thank you.

I said at the beginning that if we really did this, went all in, that we would create something miraculous. Well, we did it. Our love is a masterpiece.

Thank you for taking off your armor, trusting me, and loving me every single day just as powerfully as you did when we got together this day 1 year ago.

Thank you for making me ask you to be my girlfriend that day, and bringing out that middle school kid with the biggest crush of his life. I still have the biggest crush on you.

With our love we have cultivated this truly inspired space where we are safe to flourish and expand, both individually and as partners. It’s wonderful. I wake up grateful everyday.

Doing life with you just feels right, and continuing to build this life together feels exhilarating and full of joy, like zip lining over a rainbow.

We have already made a masterpiece beyond our wildest dreams in just one year, and we are just getting started.

I can’t wait to see what is in store for us these next years. The adventures we will have and donuts we will eat. 😋

Today is a very important day of reflection. 6 years ago today I decided to become sober. Each year that I reach this day again, I always have realizations as I look back.

Here’s some downloads from year 6:

I made a gigantic step to that day stop living my life as a victim. I made a choice to be active in the world, instead of reactive. Making that choice was me truly listening to my intuition, which would become easier the clearer I became.

That was the all important first of MANY steps, and I made a TON of mistakes along the way, but instead of blaming outside circumstances, I have lived in responsibility, and I learned from each one of those mistakes.

Because I chose to live a clearer life, I was able to have peace, where I chose to observe myself and those around me, to really listen to the lessons I was being taught. Being a student of life is a forever choice, I can always learn and grow.

Today where I’m able to live in alignment, stand in my truth, march on my path toward true north.…there are many different ways to say it.
My favorite: I listen to and lead from my heart. ❤️ ✨ 

Now things are happening FOR me, not to me.
Because I am following my heart, living my personal legend, all the universe conspires to help me create.

In Jan 2023, all of that learning and growth led me to fall completely in love with a powerful, brilliant, beautiful queen.
This took both of us completely following our hearts, and going all in. A gift of both of our work.❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

I am surrounded by love in my partnership, my family, my friends, and of course the music community. I believe It’s because I give it away freely and without condition. 

All of the big announcements this year, incredible opportunities, these 👆🏽endless gifts, would not have happened if I didn’t take that first step.

I don’t tell you these things to preach, I tell you them as a reminder that if I can change, anyone can.
And there’s a million different ways that making a change can look.

Burning Man 2022 Part 1:
This is one of the few pics that I took last year at Burning Man. And it wasn’t because I was having too much fun or trying not to take pictures. I did have some fun and beautiful moments, playing music, friend’s weddings, a magical tea camp filled with oracles, and my art car dreams coming to fruition (next part). 

This was Burn #7 for me, and it broke me. I can honestly say I have never been that far past the end of my rope. I thought about quitting, a lot. I walked away from a long term relationship immediately after the burn. I saw a lot of people I love really struggling, and I could do very little to help them. I got heatstroke. I didn’t sleep for days, not by choice. I experienced a stark BM cultural shift, and felt like it may not be my place anymore. I missed annual legendary events that I always attend because I was IN IT. Worst of all, I barely connected with people, which is, I believe, the magic of burning man! 

I’ve done a lot of stuff in my life, and let me say, THIS WAS EFFING HARD. 

At one point I yelled out loud “I left Bali for this? To come to pay to work in the desert, What is wrong with me where I think I need to do this?”

I kept going back to was the following: Burning Man gives you exactly what you need, not what you want. 

Since last year I have updated my description to this:
Burning Man is concentrated cross section of the human experience. The bad, ugly, unbelievably beautiful, all of it is there for you, and you can experience it all, just like life. 

I knew there was a lesson in all of it, and the things I learned and shed ended up being really good for me. I became a new version of myself after. At first, I didn’t know if I would go back for 2023, but then I remembered what brought me to burning man in the first place, and that’s continued in the next part…..

Disclaimer: Yes, I realize these are quality problems, and I made the decisions that got me there. I’m grateful I get to do this every year. I also get to be pi**ed off at the decisions I make, and I have been for the last year. This is me letting it go.

About this night 👆🏽:

Friday night, we experienced one of the legendary dust storms that Burning Man is famous for. At times, visibility was so limited that it was difficult to see beyond your own hand. Full disclosure: the storm actually destroyed the faders on the mixer.

However, amidst the storm, a special moment of playa magic unfolded, which Burning Man is also famous for. This unplanned B3B set was a spur-of-the-moment decision, and it got quite intense at times with the storm. Nevertheless, it gifted us a remarkable 6-hour journey that we will cherish forever.
�We were incredibly fortunate to have an amazing group of dusty souls marooned with us in the Paradisium Forest for this exceptional set. With open hearts and minds, they danced alongside us for hours through the storm and well after.
�We are so excited to share this, and relive it together with you. Thank you for being here.

Hiding is the #1 thing I wanted to do when I was really in it these last months. And it was in uncovering and reaching out to the community to talk about it, that I began to really understand what I was going through and what needed to happen.

There was a message revealed that was crystal clear.

I NEEDED TO CLEAN…EVERYTHING.

Here were some questions that I asked myself:

Where in my life are there grey/muddy areas?

Am I truly showing up as the best man I can be?

How can I show up in service to myself as much as I do to others?

How can I live a cleaner life in all areas?

How can I get better at communicating my needs?

Where is my life disorganized?
What can I shed to help this?

So I’ve been working on simplifying things, organizing, aligning, asking for help, delegating, which is giving me space to work on the most important and fulfilling things in my life.

Asking those questions got me out of wanting to cover up, and into creating a better life than I could have ever imagined.

In the end getting out of my breakdown required two key things:

1) Setting a timer during my toughest moments, feeling all the feelings, then calling someone when that timer was up to get help from community.

2) Bringing willing to ask and answer the tough questions and when triggers came up, “where do my feelings, triggers, habits root from,” and working to reconcile those resentments/memories/stories.

Then my hands came down and stopped covering up, and I had a new lightness and freedom.

All in all, this means more music for everyone, more magic being created, more love to be shared. In working on ourselves, we improve our ability to show up for the world ❤️

Remember you’re never alone, you always have a friend in me.

MY MOST DIFFICULT POST TO DATE - This is me, raw, covered in semi-dry tears, which was an ongoing theme beginning in January.

Starting over… I recently shared how I hit four years of sobriety, and while I have still not touched substances, I realized there are addictive tendencies that have shown up in my life recently. 

I also realized I was hiding from this realization. I was hiding from the work needed to be sober in all areas of my life. I lied and minimized the truth to avoid looking at the fact that parts of my life had become unmanageable, and my addiction had manifested itself in different ways.

Because of this, I lost things that were very important to me. I relapsed, but not with substances. Honestly, I almost drank, and it took all the tools I have learned in sobriety not to throw it all away to numb myself.

I am sharing this because I want people to remember that we are all human. We make mistakes, and for me, sometimes it takes BIG ones to learn my lesson. I struggle. While it may not be often, it can be REALLY difficult when I do.

We have the highs, and the next day we feel the unexpected lows. I’m sharing my low with you. It’s been months long, and I was not kind to myself.

In these waves, it’s all about what we CHOOSE.
In January, I chose to be a beginner… a student. I continue to choose this every day. I am destined to be a vessel for change in others’ lives… but first, I know I must continue to be the vessel for change in my own life.

I choose to live, feel it all, and grow from it.

New levels of growth call forward new levels of embodiment. 
And inevitably, new challenges arise for me to witness the areas I still need growth in.

I used to share these phrases when I was out of it: Passed it. “Healed.” I’m still healing as I write this.

And the reality is that I will always have new opportunities to choose a higher path.

And in that, it may feel sh*tty. I may feel like I’ve failed. 

But the bottom line is that I’m growing. I’m learning.
And I’m a YES to it all.
