Today we celebrate International Day of Indigenous Women. We celebrate our heritage, passed down by these amazing women who are the guardians of the values handed down from countless generations before them. Values of taking care of family and taking care of the land where they live.

We are excited to note the return of the festival Sabor a Mar! This year, it will be held at the new Paseo Capricho del Rey in Zihuatanejo (between La Ropa and Las Gatas).

Revered as one of the most scenic train rides in the world, El Chepe is a dream ride for many. This breathtaking journey of 350 km (220 miles) travels through the heart of the Sierra Tarahumara, through the majestic Copper Canyon with 86 tunnels and 175 bridges from Los Mochis, Sinaloa to Creel, Chihuahua. In addition to celebrating International Indigenous Peoples Day today, we in Mexico also celebrate the Anniversary of the birth of one of our nation’s heroes, Vicente Guerrero Saldaña: Insurgent general of our independence movement, and our nation’s 2nd president. Of Afro-Mexican descent, he was born in a tiny village of Tixtla in what is now the state of Guerrero- aptly named after him.

Today we celebrate International Day of Indigenous Peoples, a day set by the United Nations in 1994 to honor, respect and help these peoples continue to survive.
Where would Mexico be without our indigenous roots? Our distinctive dishes, faces and traditions are what make us unique, and we need to recognize that both here as well as in any country we visit.
Mexico is home to 68 indigenous peoples, each speaking their own native language and together comprising 364 different variants, and many are on the brink of extinction. We strive to lift up our indigenous people with the respect they deserve.

After several years of closure, The Bay Club has its grand opening “rebirth” in a new location- off of the Paseo del Pescador in front of Hotel del Pescador (not far from the museum).

If it’s Thursday, it’s Jueves Pozolero!
Every Thursday in the state of Guerrero, pozolerias start bustling to get ready for the crowds. Actually, the cooking begins the day before and continues through the night, hence the once-per-week-only tradition.
Pozole is more than just a hominy-based meal; it is a tradition. It is a time set aside in Thursdays to gather with family, friends and coworkers in their favorite pozoleria, sharing togetherness and joy over delicious bowls of pozole- no matter what the temperature is outside.
Some choose a pozoleria because of ingredients (chicken or vegan vs the traditional pork); flavor/color choice of the Mexican flag: red, green or white (clear) broth; the accompanying garnishes and/or botana/appetizers- or their favorite musicians.
This prehispanic dish has come a long way, adding and perfecting ingredients over the centuries. If you have tried and loved (or hated!) pozole in another region- don’t expect our guerrerense pozole to be the same, as recipes vary greatly from one region to another.
Join us all on Thursday July 25 to celebrate Pozole Guerrerense at your favorite pozoleria- and don’t forget to bring a friend or two!
