Assessment is one of the most important step of our client onboarding process.

Assessment allows us to understand where the client is currently at and what we need to do and how to do it in order to reach the client’s goal.

Merely knowing the end goal of the client is not enough. Many people can have the same goals but that doesn’t mean the way to get there is the same for everyone.

Only through an assessment can we know what plan suits the client best.

Things to consider are current fitness levels, lifestyle, commitments and so many more.

Assessment also allows us to identify clients that we cannot help, whose problem is out of our scope. This is when we refer our clients out so that they get the best care they deserve.

Time to bid farewell to “One size fits all” advice!

It’s a common scene in the coaching space, where absolute statements like

“You should 𝘼𝙇𝙒𝘼𝙔𝙎 get 7-8 hours of sleep daily”
“𝙉𝙀𝙑𝙀𝙍 eat processed food”
“𝙀𝙑𝙀𝙍𝙔𝙊𝙉𝙀 should be doing weights training.”

are handed out like it’s a absolute solution to all problem. While these suggestions generally good advice, the truth is, even the best advice doesn’t suit everyone.

Why? Because each of us is a unique individual with different daily routines, needs, and desires.

Consider a parent juggling a full-time job and a newborn baby – expecting them to get a solid 8 hours of sleep might be unrealistic.

For someone with a hectic daily schedule, processed food might be the only viable option to refuel. (Spoiler alert: NOT all processed foods are bad, but that’s a topic for another day.)

And for those who find joy in activities like running or dancing, forcing them into weightlifting might dampen their enthusiasm for exercise.

Yes, there are core fundamentals that apply universally, but the key to making these principles work is by creating a plan that fits the individual.

So, the next time you stumble upon fitness and health advice online or from any source, don’t take it as it is. Think subjectively – how does that advice align with your current routine, needs, and wants? What tweaks can you make to ensure it’s a good fit?

If you find yourself unsure, consider getting a coach who delves deep and takes time to understand you better before giving advices. Avoid those who claim to have all the answers without understanding your unique situation.

Ever wonder why injuries happen? It's a simple equation: when the load on our bodies exceeds our capacity, trouble comes knocking. Let's break it down:

𝗟𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝘃𝘀. 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆
Injuries happen when the demands placed on our bodies (the load) exceed what our bodies can handle (capacity). Think of it like a collision with a speeding bike—ouch! But in everyday life, it's the loads we carry that can tip the scale.

𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗲𝘅𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀
Our body's resilience is influenced by pre-existing conditions:
- Anatomical Defects: Genetics and past injuries play a role.
- Recovery, Diet, and Stress: The worse these are managed the bigger the load.
- Functional Limitations: Flexibility, Mobility, Strength—The more limitations we have, the more load we experience.

𝗗𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗟𝗼𝗮𝗱𝘀: 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀
Life brings different loads—home chores, work demands, commutes, gym sessions, and personal joys. These add up, intentionally or not.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗷𝘂𝗿𝘆-𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲: 𝗧𝘄𝗼 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀
1. 𝗟𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: While reducing life's loads isn't always an option, managing pre-existing conditions is. We can always Improve recovery, diet, and stress management. We can also work on our functional limitations for a stronger foundation.

2. 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁: There’s no argument that a fitter person is harder to kill. Train to increase your body's capacity. Strengthen, enhance range of motion, build endurance to elevate your resilience.

Remember, it's about finding the sweet spot where loads meet capacity. Let’s start addressing the real issue and stop avoid doing the things you love and need to do.

Having a flexible diet doesn’t mean you can eat what ever you want as much as you want.

It means embracing all kinds of food without demonising or patronising any and having the discipline to not over consume.

The benefits of having a flexible diet?

🍫 You can have a piece of chocolate or have a fast food meal any day of the week without feeling guilty.

🤤 Reduce cravings. As you can see in the comparison above, it’s much easier to over eat over the weekend when you have a strict and rigid diet, after you’ve been deprived of the food you enjoy.

👩🏻‍🤝‍👨🏼 Maintain a relationship with family and friends. Having a flexible diet helps your avoid being the awkward person having a salad bar during a celebration event. It may also help you not overeat.

It’s All About Balance! ⚖️

Looking after your diet doesn’t mean that all the indulgent treats need to go out the window. Any food can fit inside a healthy and balanced diet.

Want to lose weight? As long as you keep the calories intake lower than you calories output, you’re good.

Want to improve your health, just make sure you take in nutritious whole food 80% of the time and 20% food you love, you’ll be fine.

Remember, food is more than just calories, for most people, it plays a big part in our mental and social health as well.

You don’t have feel guilty or bad for having the snacks that you wanted to. Neither do you need to “burn” off the calories.

Just enjoy them in moderation alongside with other nutrients dense meals and move on.

Jachin started training with us with the goal of regaining confidence to play basketball after his ACL and meniscus injury.

Just 6 weeks into training he is now able to run, jump and play basketball confident. He has even stopped using knee guard which before he wasn’t able to play basketball without wearing it.

It’s not always about being pain free but being able to move confidently and doing the things you love and need to do.

In 2022, our client CK was diagnosed with a spine injury, slip disc to be exact.

When CK reached out to us, he has already been through a long course of treatment with a chiropractor was in fact already pain free.

What he was still missing was his range of motion and his confidence to move and exercise. He wasn’t sure whether he was ready to go back to his training program like before.

We did not try to fix him, all we did was slowly reintroducing range of motion and load to rebuild capacity and restore confidence.

In 5 weeks CK was able to regain his full range of motion and now we are again slowly increasing load into his training.

Recovering from injury is more than just being pain free, it is also about regaining confidence and movement freedom.
