Chinese calligraphy matching with rustic hawker stall style roof and vintage pattern ventilation bricks, all come together, bringing customers back in time in searching for tastes of old Ipoh.

Simple, easy to access and maintain, wheelchair friendly 💯

A functional and affordable under staircase store room closed up design with an arc door access camouflaged with the neutral wall painting. Wall shelf and mirror placement for aesthetics and serves as a console for keys and display.

Semi open guest room, home office/ future maid’s room💡
The old kitchen, narrow space with minimal ventilation is transformed to a multi purpose area which serves the purpose of a guest room, home office and maybe a future maid’s room.

Key Design: Multi Purpose space/ Guest room/ Home Office/ Future maid’s room ✅

Without enclosing the space, we designed a sliding door opening from middle connecting the room with the walkway which makes the narrow walkway more spacious, meanwhile, the room is flexible to serve the purpose of a home office and occupy temporary guest sleeping a night.

Making the space open, functional and neat 💯

Always consider the future 👍🏻💯 We design not only focus on the current feeling and only to want it look good. We want our design to be sustainable and suitable for our client.

When designing a retirement home, we always take the future into consideration. We think about the possibilities and the convenience for using the space as the major design key.

Key Design: Easy steps and ramp✅👨🏻‍🦽
✅Wide low door front steps allows elderly to walk up the steps easily without help
✅Wheel chair friendly and trolley access by the ramp sideways

The door front step is a nightmare to our client as they had bad experience with the one big step up to the main door while needing to open the door, they have limited space to step on and nearly fall down.
To solve the problem, we did some calculation and decided to make the steps lower and wider by dividing one big step into 3 and widen the rest for full feet length. Which makes the steps now comfortable to move on😎

On the other hand, the ramp is also specially designed for the house at the side accessing to the side sliding door which allows access of trolley while bring some heavy stuffs and groceries, and also main purpose for the future wheelchair to roll on without needing any help 💯💯💯 how cool is that.

The design spirit here in this house is for good self care and love. Wishing to achieve minimal assistance as an independent retired elderly with pride and respect. 🫡❤️‍🔥

Retirement home design 🏡 A heart warming story of our client and her late father. She inherited the childhood home from her late father and now she wants to make it her dream house for retirement life.

All opening and walk way are designed ti be wheelchair accessible which is very important for elderly while being taken care of.

And a wide sani top for standing support which there is space to lay hands on, along with towel bar.

A mid high wall instead of full glass for easy cleaning and also as a standing support while getting up from the toilet. 🚽

And a floating shower slab which allows elderly to be seated while shower and floating makes it easy to clean ✨We are glad that the design turns out aesthetically pleasing and functional at the same time.

A story of love from a late father to his only daughter, a gift of a 40 years old house 🏡

💛Key Design: Open space Living 💛
A vintage house with good potential, great natural lighting and versatile space. After listening to our client’s story and request, we decided to make a big change to the living area by breaking open the walls and windows to make a big opening leading to the patio outside. Which she can enjoy the space semi open looking outside the garden while spending time in the living and also combine the indoor and outdoor space when needed.

What’s your one key takeaway 💎 from your six month of internship in OCI 🟡🔵?

I enjoy how interns are treated like full-time employees and provided practical and important duties that are critical to the design engagement. Even though I had only been with the organization for 24 weeks, I felt a tremendous feeling of accomplishment each time I accomplished a task. I obtained a broader understanding of the design profession, which has really aided my career planning. My most important takeaway would be the new long-term ties and connections that I had formed with my coworkers and fellow intern at One Catalyst Interior.

The story of a 40 years old vintage house 🏡
As the only daughter, Ms. M inherited the house from her late father, she spent her childhood growing up in this home of hers and her parents. The place is full of precious memories. She then left home to work when she was 18. Now she is retired and wanted to come back to her hometown for her retirement life. Getting to know her story and understanding her needs, OCI started working on her house space planning and design fulfilling her retirement dream home.

💛Key design 1: Kitchen 💛
The vintage kitchen was initially at the back of the house,less ventilation and enclosed. The old hassle was to carry groceries and food waste in and out along the walk way to the front door.

Design solution is to replan the kitchen with a hidden pantry position to the front of the house which is more convenient for stocking up grocer and easier access for elderly.

Special feature here is a kitchen slot in door, the electrical appliance are perfectly kept hidden when not used and messy free ✅

What’s your ONE key takeaway 💎 from your six months of internship in OCI 🟡🔵?

The six months spent working at the company has been memorable and fulfilling. Apart from the educational gain, I was able to improve on my self development in terms of my social skills. I personally thought the working environment at the company is healthy and enriching. I admire the way the higher ups cared for their staff and most of the time try to see things from the employees’ perspective. I think working for the company is definitely beneficial for one’s career prospects. I am truly grateful for the opportunity given, being a part of the company was a good step in my career growth.

The house came with an awkward layout leaving him tons of worries and hassle, he then knew he needs bespoke design. After some discussion and understanding client’s needs, we focus on functionally and aesthetic, fully utilising the area for storage and display which also serves as a mini altar beside the tv feature wall.

There is no best design, only suitable design to meet our clients’ needs. 💯
