Appendicitis surgery recovery time varies but typically takes about six weeks.

You’ll need to take it easy for a few days after an appendectomy. You shouldn’t drive or work for at least 48 hours after surgery. You also should avoid strenuous activity, exercising, and lifting anything heavy. Your surgeon will let you know when you can return to work.

- Keep your incisions clean and dry.
- Don’t pull off the thin strips of tape covering your incision. They should fall off on their own in a week or so.
- Wear loose-fitting clothes. This will help cause less irritation around your incisions.
- You can shower as normal. Gently wash around your incisions with soap and water. Don’t take a bath until your incisions are fully healed and your healthcare provider says it’s OK.
- Don’t drive until you have stopped taking prescription pain medicine.
- Don’t lift anything heavier than 10 pounds until your healthcare provider says it’s OK.
- Limit sports and strenuous activities for 1 or 2 weeks.
- Resume light activities around your home as soon as you feel comfortable.

Stoma bags are usually made of hypoallergenic, waterproof material to reduce skin irritation. Some stoma bags are disposable, while others are suitable for reusing.

After an ostomy operation, a person receives instructions on how to care for their stoma. This includes how to clean and empty the collection bag or pouch and how often to change it.

Advice that a person may receive after the operation may include:
- using a well-fitting pouch to avoid leaks and skin irritation
- having a regular schedule to change the pouch

Sempat jumpa kawan lama Madam di unit Stoma & Wound Care. Sama-sama berkhidmat di unit ICU dahulu 🫡✨

Pressure sores are very common among those with restricted mobility, but they can be prevented. Here are some useful tips.😉

Frequently shift the person’s weight. If they are bed-ridden or spend most of their time in a wheelchair, as the caregiver, keep repositioning them hourly.
* If possible, encourage and assist the patient with lifting themselves as much as possible. This depends on their body strength. If they are able to lift themselves.
* Try engaging in exercises that are friendly for wheelchair users or bed-bound patients. However, a caregiver or family member should stay close by while the patient is doing this. They can also acquire a specialty wheelchair that allows them to tilt a bit to relieve pressure.
* Use cushions and mattresses that help to relieve pressure and keep the body well-positioned. Some examples can be memory foam cushions, air mattresses or even water mattresses.
* Experiment to find the most comfortable position of the bed or wheelchair. For example, if the bed can be elevated, raise it to an angle of 30 degrees to prevent shearing.
* Inspect the skin regularly and keep it clean and appropriately moist.
