🎨 Experience an Artist Sharing with James Seet! 🎨

Date: August 24, 2024
Time: 11:00 AM
Venue: COEX, Hin Bus Depot

Join us for a unique opportunity to explore the creative mind of James Seet as he presents “Echoes of Eden.” This special event offers a deep dive into his latest work through an artist-sharing session. As you arrive, you’ll be welcomed into an atmosphere enhanced by thoughtful music, striking visuals, and a hint of incense, all setting the stage for an engaging exploration of Seet’s art.

James will discuss the inspiration and ideas behind his ceramic pieces, which tackle pressing environmental issues. This is your chance to hear directly from the artist about his approach and the messages he aims to convey. Following his talk, there will be a Q&A session where you can ask questions and discuss his work in more detail. The event wraps up with a guided tour of the O sculpture, offering an in-depth look at the centrepiece and its significance.

Admission is free, so don’t miss this opportunity to gain insight into James Seet’s work and its environmental themes. We look forward to seeing you at COEX, Hin Bus Depot, for a morning of art and discussion. 🌿

And there’s more to look forward to on the same day! At 2:00 PM, stay at COEX for a special talk by Mr. Tan Choo Eng from the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS). He’ll delve into the world of Penang’s endangered waterbirds and shorebirds, highlighting the crucial role of Seberang Perai’s mudflats and mangroves.

This talk is held in conjunction with the “Echoes of Eden” exhibition—a powerful journey through ceramics, where each piece tells a story from the Malayan Tiger’s fading stripes to the impact of deforestation. It’s not just art; it’s a call to reconnect with nature.

Plus, we’re making a difference together: 10% of the proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to MNS Penang. These funds will support the conservation of the Penaga Mangroves and Mudflats, an Important Bird Area (IBA), and help create a shorebird identification booklet for local schools and communities.

Come for the art, stay for the talk, and contribute to a meaningful cause. See you there! 🌍✨

Our brand new exhibition is open now. 💥

“In the quest for eternal change as an artist, I find it essential to tell stories, the dramas of life that may begin with something obscure to the infinite complexity that tickles the emotion. It’s a visual representation of a dialogue I am after, a theatrical performance to the eyes that behold!”

James Seet is a Malaysian ceramic artist who explores the tension between nature and human experience. His sculptures are deeply rooted in personal narratives, reflecting the duality of fragility and resilience. With exhibitions across Asia, the Americas, and Europe, Seet’s art delves into themes of identity, culture, and the human condition. His creative process embraces traditional and experimental techniques, making his work a profound commentary on contemporary life. 🌍💫

We’d like to express our heartfelt appreciation to 南洋商报 Nanyang Siang Pau for their coverage of Echoes of Eden, a solo exhibition by James Seet Art, as well as his artistic journey.

“This time, James particularly used his latest series of creations to express his inner thoughts and convey his concern for society and nature, which is very meaningful! The solo ceramics exhibition ‘Echoes of Eden’ continues his previous series of socially concerned art, evolving through time and transformation, once again creating stunning ceramic artworks.

‘Echoes of Eden’ is an extension of James' highly acclaimed ISSUES series, featuring geode-like ceramic works that starkly present the escalating crisis of environmental degradation. As an important measure to support nature conservation, 10% of the sales from the artworks from ‘Echoes of Eden’ will be donated to (MNS) Penang Branch. The association is also invited to give a talk during the exhibition on the crisis of endangered birds in Malaysia, aiming to raise awareness and promote the conservation of rare species. "

Echoes of Eden is open from 3rd August to 1st September at O Sculpture at Hin Bus Depot. Feel free to drop by any time between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Friday through Sunday.

Save the Date: Echoes of Eden Opening Reception

Dear friend, we are delighted to invite you to the opening reception of Echoes of Eden, an exhibition by James Seet Art, who has the following to share about the exhibition.

“In the silent whispers of clay and the evocative touch of my hands, I strive to paint a raw, emotional canvas of the world around us. My art serves as a vessel, carrying the weight of untold stories, particularly those echoing the plight of our imperilled environment.

‘Echoes of Eden’ is more than an exhibition; it's a symphony of emotions—each sculpture a note in the compelling ballad of our connection to nature. Through the transcendent medium of ceramics, I sculpt tales of the Malayan Tiger's fading stripes, the haunting repercussions of deforestation, the reverberating impact on indigenous tribes and even environmental issues in our own backyard concerning stray dogs and cats.

My creative journey is an intimate dialogue between aesthetics and purpose, where each stroke of clay speaks volumes about the fragile balance between humanity and our natural world. The subtle textures, the nuanced symbolism—each element serves as a silent yet resonant plea, urging introspection, empathy, and action.

I invite you to stand amidst these sculptures, to witness the profound beauty and tragedy interlaced within them. Through ‘Echoes of Eden,’ I endeavour to ignite a fire in the hearts of viewers, a flame that sparks conversations, introspection, and a collective call to safeguard our shared heritage.

May these sculptures not just be viewed but felt, their silent echoes resonating within, beckoning us to become guardians of our Eden, to champion the preservation of our planet's magnificence and harmony.”

The opening reception will take place on 3rd August 2024 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at O Sculpture at Hin Bus Depot, Penang. The event schedule is as follows:

10 a.m. - Speech by Mr. Ismail Ani Arope, Regional Head of ClMB Group Corporate Events, Group Brand & Marketing
10:10 a.m. - Tour of Gallery
10:30 a.m. - Refreshment
