How long will your list go when you are told to create a buffet lunch menu? If you are anything like the rest of the classic Malaysians, you known it’s all about mixing a range of dishes, that hit on flavours and textures. Penang is known as the food capital of Malaysia, therefore you have got to add some its delicacies too. Can you wrap it all up under one roof for a company’s buffet? Yes, as we recently did it.
On a fine Friday in Prai, we arranged a delectable buffet lunch for 80pax. The management was keen to offer their employees a proper feast. As such, we were on a mission to give the best of food, right from mains to sides and of course, action stalls. Having referred to our previous catering service with Char Koay Teow, this Penang special dish was top of the management’s priority. The rest of the menu turned out to be equally exciting.
The menu is as follows ⬇
✅Mango Kerabu
✅Chicken Sambal
✅Fried Squid Rings
✅Nestum Fried Prawns
✅Japanese Tofu with Mixed Veggie
✅Chicken Satay Set
✅Cream Puff
✅Lime Cordial
✅Cut Fruits with Rojak Sauce
🔥Action Stalls:
✅Char Koay Teow
✅Ice Kacang
Our top picks settled right in – Chicken Sambal, Nestum-Fried Prawns with Curry Leaves and Fried Rice. These dishes are somewhat the foundation for a filling lunch. Nevertheless, the addition of Mango Kerabu and Japanese Tofu with Vegetables strikes marriage of flavours. The sweet, sour and spicy Thai dish has a nice bite to it, while the Japanese Tofu’s pillowy consistency makes it subtle yet tasty.
Despite all the arrangements and variety of food, nothing garners attention like action stalls. While the Ice Kacang stall were visually appealing, the real deal got to be the Char Koay Teow stall. The smoke coming off the hot wok sends off an inviting aroma to the people. Reminding them to store some stomach place for these delicious noodles.
We get it. A day in office moves so fast and sometimes it’s challenging to organise a hi tea event. That’s where we come in: we are here to bring you corporate catering services to your workplace. The menu was requested to hit the sweet spot between a lunch and hi tea. Held at Quay West, the buffet was arranged for 65 people and thanks to their spacious layout, we conveniently assembled the buffet line.
The management decided to mash both lunch and hi tea together therefore they expected filling dishes. In other words, a more Malaysian-style buffet for the multiracial attendees. Not forgetting several finger foods that remind one of hi tea.
The menu is as below:
Yam Lobak
Kampung Fried Rice
Belacan Fried Chicken
Fried Prawns with Curry Leaves
Fillet Fish Salad
Chicken Pie
Sliced Fruits
Assorted Nyonya Kuih
Hot Tea
Hot Coffee
Are you in the mood for a Malaysian feast like never before? Hosting a big crowd? For all your cravings, Catering Penang DotCom has not only got you covered with delicious food but also eye-catching action stalls. Referring to our previous action stall catering services, this factory in Prai approached us for their annual dinner. The menu was focused on local delights, including live-action stalls.
Thanks to the spacious outdoor area, we set up the buffet lines and action stalls on both sides. The scents and sights from the sizzling woks of Char Koay Teow and Mamak Mee Goreng, colourful Ice Kacang, and marinated Whole Lamb captured the hearts of many. It somewhat felt like walking into a Malaysian-themed food fair. In addition, many guests were already taking photos of the dining scenes.
A key factor for a successful menu is the variation to satisfy most types of eaters. Nestum Fried Prawns and Squid Rings for seafood fans, spring roll and mix vegetables for vegetarians and of course, the delectable combination of ayam masak merah and satay for meat lovers. The seafood fried rice, with eggs and fish cakes, filling and paired with every item on the menu. The final touch has to be fresh fruits for a balanced diet.
The menu is as follows:
Fried Spring Roll
Ayam Masak Merah
Nestum Fried Prawns
Stir-Fried Mix Vegetables
Chicken Satay with Condiments
Seafood Fried Rice
Fried Squid Rings
Cream Puff
Lime Cordial
Hot Coffee
Tropical Fruits
Action Stalls:
Kambing Golek (Roasted Lamb)
Mamak Mee Goreng
Char Koay Toew
Ice Kacang
Another positive note was the favourable reviews from the person in charge. She agreed to the difference that action stalls make for a catering event. As expected, the Ayam Masak Merah, Roasted Lamb, Nestum Fried Prawns and Char Koay Teow were favourites. We are delighted that the event went well. Apart from completing a big crowd order, the unique food experience was a nod to our commitment.
For this event, we head up to Sungai Petani for a branch opening. We are always excited for opening ceremonies, thanks to the aura of positivity and encouragement that drives the day to be remembered. And yes, we made sure guests were enjoying their meal. From the crispy belacan fried chicken to sweet-tangy fillet fish, and refreshing ice kacang – the menu had the guests pampering their tummy!
This fried chicken has been on our menu since the beginning and for a good reason. The chicken is fried to tender perfection on the inside and crispy on the outside. But the lip-licking goodness comes from the belacan flavour that lures for the next bite instantly.
Ask any Malaysian which dessert they would love to have for their catering, you are most likely to hear ice kacang! This shaved ice dessert is colourful, appealing and tames down the spices on the palate. Not forgetting that many of our wedding catering services have featured this delectable icy bowl.
Travelling up to Sungai Petani was so worth it when we saw guests enjoying their meals. We gathered positive feedback from our client too, who truly loved the chicken satay! If you have an opening ceremony coming up and want a caterer, you will be in safe hands with Catering Penang DotCom.
There is no better day to eat like a king than a celebration like Chinese New Year. Apart from the idea that food is the best way to attain joy, the presence of friends and family just makes the atmosphere a lot better. In most cases, this celebration lasts for a week and Penang brims with colours and lanterns. For years, we have been offering Chinese New Year catering services.
Our recent catering service was at a factory in Nibong Tebal. For a total of 100 pax, the menu was expected to be a marriage of Malaysian dishes. And to go the extra mile for satisfaction, action stalls like Ice Kacang and Char Koay Teow were added. Our live stall catering is gaining much attention after a series of events. The request was simple: balanced flavours to satisfy all types of guests.
The fun interplay of textures and flavours makes the fillet fish salad worth every bite. This dish is a common selection in our catering buffet events as it's enjoyed by all ages. Particularly those who prefer a less spicy menu. Pair it up with spaghetti or fried rice, and you feel completely satisfied.
The chicken rendang is unrivalled. The rich spices and heat give instant satisfaction to the Malaysian palate. The only question left is pairing it with briyani, roti jala or roti bengali?
The best way to upscale any buffet is the addition of live stall catering.
This time, we were approached by a reputed company in Butterworth to set up 3 action stalls and a BBQ Station! Yes, from the moment we got the catering order, we knew it was going to be a feast. We offer a range of catering stalls, largely covering local cuisines.
Char Koay Teow is a comfort Malaysian food, and it’s our most-ordered action stall. Noodles stirred under high flame and served hot, one would set their sights on the cooking until served on the disposable plate.
We never are stingy on the ingredients for Curry Mee as seafood and vegetables are topped on the noodles. You can personalise your heat level since the chilli is separate.
We have a good experience in feeding guests with a mixture of BBQ food, including chicken, sausages and mushrooms. The smoky, scrumptious smell lets you know that you are anticipating a feast. Add on some dipping sauces and enjoy your meal.
The first icy dessert that would come to Malaysians’ minds is ice kacang. Nevertheless, kids love this colourful dessert.
When it comes to buffet catering, Catering Penang DotCom is a standout choice for corporate companies. We offer admirable service and a mixture of food to cater to the diverse crowd. For many years, we have been providing catering services to factories, offices and workspaces. The team of experienced chefs emphasise using only quality ingredients and maintaining authenticity for Malaysian dishes. An example is the Roti Jala and Chicken Curry combo.
This factory buffet catering was for 100pax in Bukit Mertajam. The event space was huge to accommodate the diverse employees. The Char Koay Teow stall was the centre of attraction, with the aroma of the Penang delicacy permeating throughout the space. With Prawn Sambal and Chicken Curry on the menu, many diners were happy with the savoury and spicy goodness. Either topped on fried rice or roti jala, these dishes were filling too.
The menu:
Chicken Satay with condiments
Roti Jala with Chicken Curry
Fried Chicken
Sweet and Sour Fish Fillet
Prawn Sambal
Kampung Fried Rice
Potato Wedges
Mix Vegetables
Cut Fruits
Orange Cordial
Char Koay Teow (Action Stall)
In conclusion, hosting a corporate buffet catering is no longer a tough task. Catering Penang DotCom ensures your event is well taken care of.
Which combo do you prefer to be part of your catering service?
Savoury roti jala with chicken curry?
Smoky satay with peanut sauce?
Since both are classics, why not get them both for your buffet line?
Our latest food catering service was full of sizzles and sights from the BBQ station.
Last week we prepared a BBQ Buffet Catering for a prestigious international school in Batu Ferringhi. Having tried out our catering service before, the management was keen on a BBQ buffet this time. The event saw a diverse crowd of students, teachers, parents and more. The idea was to allow the guests to feel like walking into a food fair with live performances.
Thanks to the spacious dining area, we managed to set up the buffet line and stalls pleasantly. The choices of sauces – mint, black pepper and chilli – were well received by diners.
We didn’t expect the grilled corn to earn such merits too. With the mild charred marks and a sprinkle of herbs, it was quite addictive as many were eating it on the go.
Our catering service has been long admired for offering vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. While meat eaters have been enjoying our grilled lamb live station, vegetarians too have their fair share of choices. One of our previous vegetarian catering events featured a Malaysian-style buffet. This time, vegetarian action stalls such as Char Koay Teow and Rojak were the stars.
This stir-fried dish has been a crowd favourite since day one. The instant stir-frying is eye-catching and releases an aroma that permeates throughout the area. The char koay teow is done the Penang-style, a drier version with soy sauces and vegetarian fish cakes, bean sprouts and chives. The option to alter the spicy level if there are kids in the event is a plus point.
The catering event was held in an orphanage centre in Batu Maung, adding up to 60 pax including the guests.
The Menu:
Char Koay Teow (Action Stall)
Ice Kacang (Action Stall)
Mix Fruit Rojak with Vegetarian Sauce
Nyonya Kuih
Spring Roll
Hot Coffee
Most importantly, the kids had a great time! Interacting with one another and trying out delicious food. The crowd loved the menu, particularly the stir-fried koay teow. Try these yummy noodles for your upcoming event too. We can make it pure vegetarian or load up seafood.
Buffet Catering on a Cruise!
Buffet Catering for a Cruise Dinner. Featuring Grilled Lamb, Chicken Pie and Nyonya Kuih
Catering for a ship isn’t new for us, as we previously did a hi tea buffet for a cruise. However, each time it offers excitement like never before. This buffet spread was for 90 pax and the organiser wanted a feast for the guests. During the dinner menu discussion, they wanted a mixture of flavours to satisfy all palates.
From the classic chicken pie to juicy grilled lamb with sauces, ever-favourite fillet fish with salad and bite-sized fruit tarts, the menu was well received. The images give you a glimpse of the buffet catering service.
Simple, sleek and clean. These words come to mind when one thinks of a catering setup. 😍
There's an array of buffets coming up. Stay tuned!

Arriving at work after a festive season just uplifts the mood. Not only do you share stories about celebrations and holidays but the real deal is sharing traditional snacks. As such, this company in Bukit Mertajam thought of elevating the experience with a Hari Raya Buffet Lunch
It’s always off to a good start with ketupat and lemang with kuah kacang on the menu. Nevertheless, the request was to balance the dishes with savoury and sweet elements.
