Water is among the heavily needed resources to run a farm. Rain harvesting can be a help to cut cost and also can be designed to increase farm efficiency.

The higher your platform the more water pressure in your hose. Gravity ... it's not only just a good idea ,it's the law.

IMO (indigenous microorganism)'s is widely known to have big role in ensuring a healthy soil. Natural forest has been thriving sustainably for million of years without any external factors, and researchers has been relating this to many factors -- one of it is IMO assistance.

What is IMO? Why IMO?
How to generate it?
How to apply?

The following materials by Cho Global Natural Farming explains it in detailed from Korean Natural Farming perspective :

Record keeping for one of our durian tree.

Durian is a high maintenance plant, so many kind of activities involve in growing a tree. Keeping a simple record like this can assist us to track what have been done to the tree before, so that we have confidence to troubleshoot whenever problem arise in future

Vegetable Bitterness is Related to Calcium Content 10/08/2021

A little findings on Calcium...

Calcium is an essential plant nutrient. As the divalent cation (Ca2+), it is required for structural roles in the cell wall and membranes, as a counter‐cation for inorganic and organic anions in the vacuole, and as an intracellular messenger in the cytosol (Marschner, 1995).

Vegetable bitterness is related to Calcium content, meaning we can use the leaves of bitter plants (e.g. papaya & noni/ mengkudu) as a natural supplement of Calcium in agriculture.

Below is a reference on this :

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2768385/

Vegetable Bitterness is Related to Calcium Content In the U.S. and Europe, most people do not consume the recommended amounts of either calcium or vegetables. We investigated whether there might be a connection; specifically, whether the taste of calcium in vegetables contributes to their bitterness and ...

MORINGA, MURUNGAI, drumstick...
one of a plant that we highly recommend to have in each garden, not only because of its health benefit, but also a hardy & productive crop.

looks like they suit really well with our organic compost regime, and with the help of stingless bees that help pollinate their flower we see abundant harvest. See how big the bean size, about TWICE the size of an adult thumb! We impressed with the result.

Here is a short video clip on our composting worm, we just completed a cycle of harvest. These worms will be put back into a new substrates for another cycle of vermicompost production. We are using only ANC (African Night Crawler) in our vermicompost production.

Currrently our production capacity is at 0.5MT per month, and expansion work is still on-goingπŸ™‚

17/04/2021

Another joyful & productive weekend πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰.

Another project that is currently on-going, is developing a vacant plot beside our NGO's HQ ( we thank the landlord for allowing us to use the land πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™). from an abandoned land, this site will be converted into an education farm for public to learn more about natural farming technique (specifically for lowland tomato & chilli).πŸ’ͺ⏩⏩⏩

12/04/2021

Under one of the NGO that we work closedly with, we will be helping this 6+acres orchard to develop their natural farming plot. This plot will be used as one of an educational & training site.

Other programs related to farming, gardening & environmental activities are also in the pipeline. We hope to successfully turnaround this orchard into something meaningful to locals.

Advantage for our plan is that, a lot of things are already set-up here & readily available to be integrated into the plan πŸ™‚

- Free-range coop (chicken, duck, geese)
- Ruminant barn (goat)
- Fish pond & pool
- Streaming river
- Fruits orchard
- Organic vegetable garden
- Very closed to a high pop**ation residential area
- Indigenous microorganism culturing
- Lead by a friendly, visionary & passionate person
- Supporting friends
- etc....

Together let us do what we can, while we still can. πŸ™‚

We may reveal later more details, depending on approval from all the related stakeholders.

Composting in the process (main organic material : equine waste comprised of horse manure & wood chips) at an integrated fruits-veges-livestocks farm where we were assigned as one of their advisor. We love nature so much, and we love collaboration for a good purpose. Let's get this done, together! πŸ₯°πŸ€πŸ€

Organic waste in landfills generates, methane, a potent greenhouse gas. By composting wasted food and other organics, methane emissions are significantly reduced. Compost reduces and in some cases eliminates the need for chemical fertilizers. Compost promotes higher yields of agricultural crops. (source: US EPA)

13/03/2021

Organic waste? don't burn & waste them.. they can make a good organic compost & fertilizer, they house lots of beneficial microbe that help to rejuvenate spoiled land.

As for us, we are utililzing them as rabbit's meal, compost & vermicompost substrate.

Photos from CherasVille Kebun Santai's post 22/02/2021

we paid a visit to one of our friend's goat & cattle farm. our rabbit couldn't supply enough poops to meet our compost demand, so we're sourcing out some of the ingredient. still a long way to go though, but a collaboration is definitely in our plan.

oh, kalau ada yang mencari lembu/ kerbau/ kambing untuk korban, saya boleh tolong tanyakan.

A successful case of a PERMACULTURE FARMING.

Some people would worry of white ants/ anai-anai attacks, resulted from applying a lot of mulching. Permaculture is about replicating the resilient process observed in natural ecosystem i.e. mimicking the nature. White ant is also an element within the natural ecosystem. If white ants attack is a problem, the entire forrest would have already been vanished, not fertiled nor flourished.

welcoming our new addition... the first batch of New Zealand siblings for test running 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰 making our current headcounts to 30+.

our rabbits are currently on 50% vegetation feed program, and we are trying to increase it to 100% vegetation feed without commercial pallet.
🌱is it possible : YES
🌱is it realistic : not sure
🌱is it challenging : might have some, but so far so good.
🌱what motivates us to pursue? : enable ourselves in utilizing & reducing abundantly & freely available vegetation waste + zero reliance on syntetic growth hormone + much tastier herbal-fed rabbit meat + zero feeding cost + free organic input to garden from manure... or in short, "LOW COST, SUSTAINABLE & ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY PROJECT"

Beberapa minggu lepas, dapat report dari pengurusan bahawa terdapat masalah pokok terencat di KebunTo'Wan of .. maka minggu ini kita lancarkan MISI PEMULIHAN DURIAN~🎢

Buat permulaan, kita try handle 2 kes pokok bermasalah dahulu, iaitu durian D24 & durian BlackThorne. & alang-alang nak try, kita try guna 100% organik approach! (teddiaa...)

First visit~
1. πŸ”Žcheck log book pokok-pokok tersebut -- baja/racun teratur & mengikut jadual. nampak ok, tapi terbantut (kemungkinan ada isu lebihan baja/racun sintetikπŸ’‘)
2. inspect fizikal pokok & persekitaran -- rumput tumbuh lebat di pangkal, tanah agak lembap, nampak tompokan kulat pada batang & dahan, 10%~15% crown telah mengering, kurang pucuk baru

Potential reason~
1. Tanah sentiasa lembap - akar pokok lemas - serangan kulat
2. Tanah berasid & tepu akibat overdose baja/ racun vs usia pokok yang terlalu muda
3. 🐞Serangan serangga perosak pada teras batang

Immediate action~.. setelah menilai situasi & keadaan pokok, langkah-langkah segera yang diambil adalah
1. cabut rumput -- rumput menyerap nutrien, menjadi sarang perosak, menyebabkan tanah terlalu lembap, merangsang pertumbuhan kulatπŸ„
2. larutan mangrove wood vinegar & epsom salt -- disembur pada daun/batang & siraman di sekeliling pangkal
3. stop pemberian baja & racun sintetik, serta merta.
4. buang sungkupan/mulching pada Blackthorne

Next action~
1. lawatan susulan setiap dua minggu.
2. check penghasilan pucuk aktif atau tidak
3. check pH tanah (lupa bawak pH tester)
4. siraman Effective Microorganism Solution di pangkal tanah sebagai rawatan awal tanah (pemulihan keasidan/ tepu baja & racun)
5. continue semburan mangrove wood vinegar & epsom salt -- rawat jangkitan kulat & hama
6. semburan foliar Fish Amino Acid & Photosyntetic Bacteria sebagai booster pemula

Cuba-cuba, sambil berhibur.

We go for educational tour occasionally to explore ideas & gain inspiration. And today we had a chance to visit an "integrated" TILAPIA fish & CATFISH farming site.

Catfish, which is quite a hardy fish and can live in muddy & heavy ammoniatic water, is one of the key element for this farm which doesn't use high maintenance water treatment system. It is included as one of the farming element to :
- optimize the usage of second hand water from the tilapia pool
- consume excessive food from tilapia's pool, so no food will be wasted
- which then avoid the secondary water (waste) from becoming smelly due to rotten food
- subsequently letting microorganisms to have some times to breakdown organic particles lying in the waste water to a level that it can be used as an organic fertilizing water & foliar.

It was just a small scale fish farm, but with an impressive simple system.
