There are now too many self professed branding experts in Malaysia. From a product owner who struts like always on a catwalk to an actor who has acted in too many dramas that you tend to forget to even a youth looking social media operator who life depends on creating sensations and too many that wear shades on too many disturbing billboards along the highway and the byways. You often question yourself, to what extend of branding successes that they allow themselves to proclaim that they are the kings and queens of branding? Sensations, yes creates buzz but it never sustainable nor everlasting. Think about the gurus that create coke, nike, apple ads. You almost 100% don’t know them but exist serving the best brands in the world that withstand the test of time and turbulence. It’s a funny moment in the spheres of branding world that continues to decieve and get lapped.

This is where it all begin. The misadventures of my lifetime. Actually our second coming.

CiptaAsia Worldwide Sdn Bhd. We occupied this Banglow that we called Wisma CiptaAsia and many fond memories were made in 2006.

The harsh reality, no matter how noble your intentions to help others. It never is and will be reciprocated.

The truth is, everyone has their own mode to survive.

A couple of us .oldschool, bozio, to name a few has been too kind to support my (ill)-intentions back then from 2004. Because of an odd background (challenging to say the least) but had the good fortune to accelerate early in my career, I had thought I could help others achieve what some of us have achieved in our young careers. Though, most of them buy the idea to aim high and be successful, but mental and physical drive was never there to begin with. I could be ‘kill’ to say that in our predominant society the ‘M’ factor exists. Malu, Malas, Merajuk and Meroyan holds true. It is what it is. Everybody has only one blinker - survival.

Thank you to Quddin, Zaki, Mkay, Bozo and then some. I never really thank you enough.

Low - we started on a back foot with a failed project and owed 1.5 milion.

High - out of 10 business pitches, we won 9. Our billings quickly rose to 10 million in a single year.

Wisma Cipta Asia forever remains as a symbol to never try go out of your way to help others who has never immersed themselves to the concept of full commitment, efforts and never say die to achieve stardom.

But alas, old habit never dies. Here I am dreaming to propel others to greater heights, again.

What is a masterbrand? A lot of people do not understand the concept. Most think, it’s just a tagline or a slogan.

It’s an overaching brand name that serves as the anchoring point where all products and services are based upon. It is the tent-pole where the offerings link to what the company values are. They are not just slogans. It’s a mantra, a way of life, a belief system and a promise what the company represent and aspire to deliver. A masterbrand differentiate itself into a category and class of its own.

WOM
WOM is the most powerful advertising tool there is in this world. It is the only medium that every ad agency and communication practitioner aim for in every campaigns and implementation. And it is the most expensive there is as compared to TV, Radio, Print, Outdoor and even the every increasing popular social media. WOM is the mother of all to get into the head and mind of your target audience. The rest are mere vehicle to reach and drum your messages.
WOM is the hardest to get through and sway to your product attributes. WOM is living, breathing and most importantly laced with emotional sentiments that prove your effort will be successful or not.
The advent and the rise of social media only add strengths and power to WOM as it provides the much needed engagement, interaction and instant feedback.
As technology advances at the speed of light, the more powerful WOM gets.
WOM is the abbreviation of Word-of-Mouth. Advertising is the 2nd oldest profession in the world and you might think it actually contribute to the sales success of your product 100%. It did not. Advertising can only create awareness and get the early adopters to try. But WOM will determine if you can be successful or not based on their temperaments.
WOM is the opinion of your friend and families, relayed to you based on their experience of trying your product. His or her experience converts the naysayers and others to also try your product. Key word; experience. And you trust your friends and families more than anything in this world.
Social media adds fire to WOM, providing constant access to tools wherever and whenever to express their experiences to thousands of their friends and families. WOM is an authentic trusted engagement that yield success and will continue even when you are not advertising. Think Minyak Cap Kapak.
Word-of-Mouth constantly innovating and instantly relaying crucial endorsements. Or not. Word-of-Mouth is now the WORLD-OF-MOUTH vis-a-vis the rise of social media.
In the end, the aged old adage hold truth in so many levels. “Advertising can build your brand, but experience can destroy it.”

LIFE IS SIMPLE.

Echoing Steve Jobs, focus and simplicity. Simple is harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains. And that will be momentous and significant to your life. You will think differently and do things in a way that no one will expect it to be and achieve significant success by it. I know how it feels when your life is void of clutter and void of distraction. Simple but better.

But life is such. We spend too much of our lives trying to live up to expectations that at the end of the day, you found yourself wanting.

Simple is the ultimate sophistication. Enjoy things that make you happy. No arm and a leg required.

ADVERTISING IS EXACTLY WHAT YOU THINK IS NOT.

Exactly. It is not about being creative. It is not being outstanding. It is also not about selling the product. You read it right. Not about selling the product.

On the very base, it is about creating awareness that there is such a thing in the market. At the end of the effort, advertising is being tasked to get people to try your brand at least once. After that, the experience carries through whether there will be any repeat purchase or repel.

The most importat job of advertising is to enhance and alleviate the standard of livng of the people that you are targeting. It is about telling the truth in your brand that is innovatingly different and distinctive that if you do not ascribe to it, your life will be in peril.

There are too many who think they can do what the practitioner that took their toll in learning a lifetime of advertising magic do. Go for it.

In the end, you see clutter, disorientation and generalisation in all the advertising spaces. It is such a waste. I call it gebang lebih, abuk pun tarak. Just like politicians.

Litmus test, we drive everyday to work. We use so many roads and turns. There are too many billboards abound. How many of them do you remember when you passed them? Bet it took a while to remember how the advertising look, what did it say and what is the key benefit that they are propagating right?

Yes, advertising seems simple, so say Ahmad, Ah Kau and Mutu of the world. can do. Of course. Hey, but how far can it go? How well can it perform? The adage by Steve Jobs, “Simple is harder than complex” comes to mind. In our world, we practice KISS concept diligently. And it is for a reason. To be effective, to be efficient and to be infectious that people will always remember you even when you are not advertising.

To those who wants to do it, please do it right. To those who think that you can do it, learn more. Advertising is about pinpointing your key differentiation and distinction that no one has. Advertising is not about making you a believer. In the end, is about how it makes you feel.
