The Creator, creation and his creatures. Art as a creative process gives birth to infinite ideas and a lexicon of creatures. This section is a creature glossary no less.

POWER + WAR;
Delving into the complexities of human conflict and power dynamics, this section confronts visitors with thought-provoking works that explore themes of war, oppression, and resilience. Through evocative imagery and poignant storytelling, Power and War invites reflection on the darker aspects of the human experience.Humanity at its best and ultimate worst.

The 1950’s LOUNGE;
Step back in time. The Lounge reflects the day when this art deco building was built. Toffee was originally the Malayan office of the Asia Insurance Co. Ltd. and was opened in the 1950’s by Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj who later became Malaysia’s first Prime Minister. Enjoy the art deco and tropical botanical vibe.

COLOURISTS;
Bursting with hues and shades, Colourists celebrate the vibrancy of colour in contemporary art. From bold, expressive brushstrokes to subtle tonal gradients, this section showcases the diverse ways artists harness the power of colour to evoke emotion and convey striking meaning. Indeed we have come a long way from when the “Sulawesi Warty Pig” was painted 45,500 years ago using dark red ochre pigment on limestone cave walls.

PAM AWARD is Malaysia’s highest recognition for architectural excellence and most recognised honour for Architects, Clients/Owners and Builders/Contractors. An annual event it recognizes the designs made by Architects in terms of quality and innovation. The Project Room at the Toffee is honoured to showcase the architecture community coming together to shape the future of the built-environment. An architecture-focused event, feast your eyes on the submissions by Malaysian Architects. The categories of works are: Residential, Industrial, Commercial low rise/ high rise/mixed development, Adaptive Re-Use, Interior Design and Education.

The Spirit of Steel and Human Resilience. Raja Shahriman's sculpture robust twist that forms a warrior-like poses, invites visitors to analyse it's curve and sharp points. Creating an interactive viewing experience.

Challenging Identity. Umibaizurah Mahir @ Ismail's figurine embody the playfulness and experiment presentation. The work include hand-painted ceramic and terracotta figurines on plinths.

The Spirit of Steel and Human Resilience. Mad Anuar's "Storm Rider" captures the essence of human resilience and piognantly remind us of societal challenges. Drawing inspiration from the daily struggle and enduring spirit of fishermen in his 'kampung' in Terengganu.

Hint : it's a newly restored building along Raja Chulan and was first officiated by Tunku Abdul Rahman, our first prime minister during its completion in 1950s. The building also share its name with a type of candy 🍬 ✨

The "SIGNAL" has intercepted into Ur-Mu and is well received! 

We are delighted to be participating in "SIGNAL", an on-going project by world renowned artist and curator XU ZHEN®, an unceasing 'art exhibition' taking place on social media platforms. 

XU ZHEN® gifts participants one of his Passion paintings to the global audience and invites them to display and post on social media platforms of the painting, ultimately an 'art exhibition' across all media platform. Since it's launch in August 2022, about 3000 of these paintings have been gifted to participants across Asia, with an accompanying physical presentations taking place in Jakarta, Singapore, various sites in China and now Malaysia. 

XU ZHEN® Signal is currently showing at A+ Works of Art till the 2nd of March 2024.

Ar Dr Tan quotes: "My collection is a sort of who I was and who I am". Check out the permanent collection, you will not be disappointed.
