On 21st May 2024, the Student Representative Council (SRC) had physically held a meeting with the Department of Facilities Management (DFM). DFM had concluded that due to climate change and heavy rainfall, there was a serious overflow within the campus and resulted in the ceiling of the Yum Yum Cafeteria collapsing. Additionally, strong winds also contributed to the factor of causing many building ceilings to become fragile as the harsh wind blew them. The DFM has acknowledged that the campus sewerage system is overcapacity, contributing to the challenges in managing sudden weather events. However, they are actively working to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Currently, the DFM is undergoing a new sewerage system which connects the Student Centre and the existing campus sewerage system. Hence, the overflow problem may be overcome by implementing the new sewerage pipe and reducing the probability of water ponding issues.
Furthermore, the DFM has an ongoing maintenance plan. Many roofing and toilets around campus are being replaced to have a better campus life. DFM has always received reports and will take immediate action to understand the situation and execute to avoid any harm that may bring to the students/staff. However, as the DFM sincerely hopes all students/staff join us to assist them by providing useful reports to assist them to take the best course of action to solve the issue.
We kindly remind students and staff to avoid walking near the hoarding which surrounds the construction site as it could be dangerous. Incidents happen such as objects falling from the site, please capture photos or videos as evidence and promptly contact the DFM.
There are several method to contact DFM;
1. Contact through 03-4145 0123 (Ext. 3243)
2. Contact through H/P 011-10758570
3. Physically walk-in to Block L on 7.30am - 7.00pm
4. Seek SRC to assist in reporting the situation.
The outcome of these actions would bring awareness to the students / staff and allow DFM to improve the safety of the campus. We sincerely appreciate your cooperation and valuable feedback as we work together to create a safer and better campus environment.
The struggle is real, however we believe in your potential and trust your preparation! You're ready to conquer this final exam. Good luck on your final exam, you are almost at the end!
Good news! After clarifying the Department of Student Affairs, students who have the vehicle entry pass regardless West or East Campus are allowed to enter and park in campus grounds during the examination period. Thank you.
