π Congratulations to INEP Plus Training Cohort 4! π
After 8 weeks of rigorous training, our Cohort 4 has successfully completed the INEP Plus training, which ran from 14th August to 3rd October 2024! πͺ
We are incredibly proud of their dedication and hard work throughout this journey.
A big thank you to everyone involved in supporting this cohort! Your commitment to building an addiction-free society inspires us all.
Family skills programmes support caregivers to be better parents and strengthen positive age-specific and age appropriate family functioning and interactions.
They promote a warm child-rearing style where parents set rules for acceptable behaviours, closely monitor free time and friendship patterns and become good role models while helping their children to acquire skills to make informed decisions.
Family skills programmes have proven to be gender-sensitive (affecting boys and girls equally) interventions that provide positive effects on the mental wellbeing of parents and reduce parental and occupational stress.
Additionally, they support the development of children resulting in fewer behavioral and emotional problems. Inspired by this body of knowledge UNODC Drug Prevention and Health Branch, Prevention Treatment and Rehabilitation Section has been actively promoting and piloting such evidence-based programmes globally since 2010 in over 30 countries.

Did you know that school-based interventions (SBIs) can play a crucial role in preventing common medico-psychological issues among children and young people?
Our children spend the most time in school. Complex levels of social interaction occur between teachers, staff, and peers A diverse range of social, cognitive and emotional skills are required and are honed in this environment.
Some children thrive and others can be at risk of developing mental health problems. Children who need help receive little or no mental health support.
Coping with mental disorders is hard, coupled with having to face stigmatization. Some young people may resort to using substances as a coping mechanism.
A recent review in the Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry reveals that while schools have a significant impact on students' mental health, many children still don't receive the support they need. The comprehensive study highlights the importance and potential of SBIs in fostering better mental health outcomes for our kids.
School-based prevention programs using evidence-based interventions have been shown to improve a range of skills for young people to cope. Evidence-based prevention interventions nurture the healthy and safe development of children.
Letβs work together to make mental health a priority in our schools! πͺβ¨
The evidence is clear: invest in people-focused, evidence-based prevention.

Why is drug use and drug trade growing globally despite increasing efforts by governments and world organizations to reduce demand and supply? There needs to be a systemic shift in policies and actions of governments, communities, NGOs and every member of society. There needs to be a shift to invest more in evidence-based and people-focused prevention. And there needs to be a systemic shift to community-based treatment instead of punishment.
