Verdant Care Home
Elderly care home in Kuching providing personalized care and rehabilitation services to elderlies.
Verdant Care Home based in Kuching, Sarawak is a service-personalized, comfort-centered elderly care center that pays close attention to the needs of each individual client aiming to improve his/her living standards as a whole. Our mission is to provide a platform to assist in personal-empowerment, focusing on enabling elderly clients to maintain and improve their self-esteem and self-confidence i
Sundowning/Sundown syndrome is sometimes seen in elderly with dementia where he/she develops various behavioral changes (e.g. confusion, disorientation, agitation, anxiety, aggression etc) that occurs in the late afternoon and lasts into the night.
These often disruptive behavioral changes pose a big challenge to the family members in caretaking of the elderly.
Thus it has become one of the major contributing factors for family members to seek institutionalized care for the elderly due to the difficulties in handling such conditions at home.
Learning about this condition helps family members to understand better on how to alleviate the condition and help the elderly to achieve better quality of life.

Merry Christmas🎄from Verdant! ✨It was a fun-filled day at the home, with a lot of games and interactions.
Let’s give Popo and AhKong a wish in the comments shall we? 💚
Happy Winter Solstice from Verdant 💚 There is an old saying that the Winter Solstice (‘Dongzhi’) is more important than Chinese Lunar New Year. It’s a festival where Chinese families get together and enjoy food at the table, not to mention Tangyuan too!
Our way of celebrating is also to gather and to enjoy each others company, right at the home of Verdant’s centre. We had food and Tangyuan for all.
Not everyone can have the luxury of this kind of get-together. We consider ourselves lucky. And we certainly feel honoured to be able to accompany Popos and AhKong on this festival 🫶🏻
🥬From farm straight to kitchen!
Remember the vegetables in Verdant backyard? Here’s how much they’ve grown! Popo and AhKong can enjoy organic food regularly without the fear of pesticides anymore ✅
Life at Verdant Care Home 💚
Respect, love and compassion are the key values we prioritise towards our elderlies 💚
Happy Mid-Autumn Festival from Verdant Care Home 💚
A day filled with joy and meaningful interactions between Popo, AhKong, and the younger generation. Thank you Kelvin and group members for visiting Verdant Care Home 💚
At our care home, we believe in the power of recreational activities for our beloved elders. From arts and crafts to gardening and games, these activities not only bring joy but also boost mental and physical well-being. 🌼💪
It’s so amazing to see beautiful smiles from Popo as they are involving themselves in the daily activities that we set out for them, especially knowing that these activities can be so beneficial for them in many many ways 💚
We see big improvements in the emotional wellness for them, as they become more and more relaxed and present in the moment. These meaningful improvements that they make will ultimately result in better emotional and physical health, helping them become more resilient and able to cope with the struggles that they may face in life. ✨
A big thanks to SUHAKAM (Human Rights Commission of Malaysia) for organizing 'Forum Hak Warga Emas’. Many important topics were discussed today. The entire session was very informative and insightful.
It was a privilege to be in the same room with people who genuinely care about the well-being of elderlies. We shall take what we’ve learnt from today’s session and continue to do better as a team.

Did you know that engaging in Ping-Pong can actually boost cognitive function? The nature of this game sharpens reflexes, enhances hand-eye coordination, and stimulates strategic thinking. 🧠💡 Not to mention the social interactions during the activity release positive hormones, which in turn reduce feelings of isolation. Sure, the game as you saw in this video here is altered to suit Popo but this doesn't stop them from maintaining the Spirit Young at Heart! 🏓
Solving puzzles doesn’t only strengthen the brain, it also encourages social interactions! ✨
While putting a puzzle together can be a great individual activity, it’s also ideal for collaboration. Working with others to solve a problem and achieve a common goal brings a feeling of satisfaction. This social interaction is important to keeping Popo and Ah Kong active and engaged 💚

Credits to chef Amy for putting her tender love and care into this 💚
👵Age is just a number when it comes to the power of art! 🎨 Embrace creativity to tap into memories, express emotions, connect socially, and enhance well-being. Do you think Popo did well?
[红豆汤圆] A bowl of pure red bean Tang Yuan 💚
Does popo approve of chef Amy’s red bean soup? 🤔
Pure red bean soup with Tang Yuan (红豆汤圆) for tea time snack 🍡
Red bean is a good source of iron, phosphorus, and potassium.
Millet Congee (小米粥)✨🥣
This congee was seasoned minimally, making it a light and healthy meal for our Popos and Ah Kongs💚
Millet is a good source of protein, fiber, key vitamins, and minerals. The potential health benefits of millet include protecting cardiovascular health, preventing the onset of diabetes, helping achieve and maintain a healthy weight, and managing inflammation in the gut.
It’s Vitamin B1! ✨
Vitamin B1 is closely related to the functioning of the nervous system. Prolonged deficiency of vitamin B1 in the body can lead to feelings of depression, mental sluggishness, and in severe cases, peripheral neuropathy such as beriberi. It also increases the risk of sudden cardiac problems.
Furthermore, a survey conducted by the Shanghai Institute of Life Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, found that a deficiency of vitamin B1 also increases the risk of elderly people developing depression. If an elderly person is constantly feeling down, unwilling to engage in new activities or converse with others, and shows indecisiveness, the possibility of depression should be considered.
Apart from seeking psychological counseling, supplementing with vitamin B1 can be beneficial. The main food sources of vitamin B1 are grains, legumes, and tubers, especially unrefined whole grain foods, commonly known as coarse grains.
Eating Zongzi with your loved ones is certainly a very enjoyable thing to do 💚 Still got a lot of leftovers? Here’s a reminder to keep in mind.
