The secret of Ayurveda..........
Part 2
THIS IS THE SECOND PART OF A SERIES OF ARTICLES THAT WOULD INEXPLICABLY REVEAL THE TRUE POWER OF ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE AND HOW THE ENTIRE HUMAN RACE HAS BEEN DUPED INTO BELIEVING THAT MODERN DAY MEDICINE IS THE ONLY EFFECTIVE HEALTHCARE SYSTEM AVAILABLE TO MANKIND.
Part 2
'RE-DISCOVERING AYURVEDA' by understanding its unique approach to wholesome health.
By JAY TEEBAN
In the first part of this series I had focused on why Ayurveda should be the first choice of medical treatment for any ailments and diseases known to mankind, mainly because of the hazardous side effects that accompany modern day medicine. I did however go on to recognize the need for modern medicine in emergency situations where the need to stabilize and preserve a life would outweigh the side-effects caused on by modern treatments. Any other non-severe situations of illnesses can be treated effectively by Ayurveda since it will set out to treat the root cause of the disease and set lifestyle modifications for wholesome health.
Why is Ayurveda different?
Practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine recognise and honour the uniqueness of each individual. It naturally follows that unique constitutional differences require individualised health management plans.
Ayurveda’s holistic approach to wellness is very different to the reductionist method of medicine that we are familiar with in the West. As we already know, under modern medicine, people exhibiting the same outward symptoms are all treated in a similar manner.
The basic theoretical concept of Ayurvedic medicine however, involves three bioenergetic principles (doshas) that are involved with the regulation of all natural processes within the universe. Many of you will be familiar with the terms vata, pitta and kapha. These are the three doshas of Ayurveda.
In a similar fashion to the Chinese system of medicine, Ayurveda is based on a five element theory. The five elements of Ayurveda are earth, water, fire, air and space. Everything in the universe is comprised of these elements. This includes all human beings.
Perhaps the best way to simplify would be to first understand that each individual is born with one DOSHA. Each DOSHA will predominate any two of the major elements which are vata, pitta and kapha.
This predominance or combinations provides us with our own unique personal characteristics e.g. physical attributes, personality, behavioural traits. This unique doshic combination is referred to as prakruti (or prakriti). Therefore Ayurveda suggests that each of us react differently to the food we consume, the environment we live in and all external circumstances that surround us. Hence, certain food that may be good for one DOSHA may not be good for another. Such inappropriate exposures will cause an imbalance that often results in discomfort, ailments and diseases. The key now, is to restore the balance in the imbalanced DOSHA. Achieving the balance also involves prescribing the right concoction of medication for each different DOSHA. This is what makes Ayurveda unique and different to modern medicine. Ayurveda looks at each patient subjectively unlike modern medicine which treats patients objectively. In conclusion, being administered specific treatment and medicine according to our own DOSHA achieves optimum results without side-effects and continuous health to the mind, body and soul.
Diagnosis of doshic imbalance is made by appropriately qualified health professionals and Ayurvedic doctors before specific corrective regimes are ordered. As part of the preventative strategy, Ayurveda provides guidelines for wholesome daily living practices that will support an individual’s prakruti and help them to maintain homeostasis. These practices include lifestyle modification plans in dietary regimes.

Part 1
'RE-DISCOVERING AYURVEDA' as the ultimate choice of healthcare.
By JAY TEEBAN
AYURVEDA is making a big comeback. It is a system of medicine that seeks to cure the root of a disease unlike modern medicine that seeks to cure only the symptoms of the disease rather than the disease itself. So it may come as no surprise that when Malaysia was ranked number 3 in the world index for top Medical Tourism Destination for the year 2016, the parliament started paying attention to traditional alternative medicine and it's equal ability to rake in more medical tourists into Malaysia in the coming years. Medical tourism brought in RM 750 million into the country's economy last year and the numbers are projected to grow even higher this year.
Therefore, the age old science of Ayurveda that already has an international appeal and following even in the west is spreading its wings fast. Just look at the insurmountable websites , bloggers, tourism agencies and media recognition given to Ayurveda which is easily marketed as a lifestyle rather than a medical necessity when you get sick. It's entire foundation and approach to healthcare is totally different to modern medicine aka allopathy.
In reality, many in search of good affordable healthcare are oblivious to the primary differences between allopathy and Ayurveda. Apart from knowing that Ayurveda uses herbs as medicine there is very little known to the general public about this age old science of medicare though it is given recognition by the World Health Organization (WHO). One major misconception about Ayurveda is that it is associated with a religion mainly Hinduism since it originates from India. Ayurveda means the 'knowledge of life 'and it is a system of medicine that aims for wholesome health the natural way with no religious attachments to it. Before going further to explain Ayurveda and the basic principles in which it works let us first look at the controversy and the bitter truth behind today's modern medicine.
The controversial arguments against allopathy.
Allopathy itself is a term that originates from Greek roots. Allopathic means 'that which cause different effects when administered not directly related with the pathology of the original disease'. In simple terms , it means that the allopathic system of medicine is powerful enough to effectively treat the symptoms of a disease but will invariably cause unfavourable side effects to other parts of the human body.
For example, chemotherapy may be used effectively to kill cancer cells but will cause other side effects like hair fall , altered moods and even extreme physical pain unrelated to the cancer itself. Another example is that painkillers will work to suppress pain but not without constipating you or damaging your kidneys. Pressure pills may manage your pressure well but not without causing insomnia and loss of bladder control.
In fact there is possibly more than one side effect to every pharmaceutical medicine prescribed to patients under the modern medicinal system. If you find this discerning, even more frightening is that the root cause of the disease is never addressed despite one having to endure the accompanying side-effects. Hence it can be sensibly derived that the root of the disease will continue to remain in the human body only to surface again at a time when your immunity is at its weakest.
The pharmaceutical industry is engineered into this system to provide an endless supply of medication to the sick and weak. Even more disastrous is that modern medicine ladened with such extreme side effects will ultimately damage the kidneys after prolonged use. It is comparably expensive and often unaffordable. It is also experimentative as pharmaceutical medicine is launched and then suddenly pulled out of the shelves more frequently than any other consumer products in history. All these factors alone presents a viscous cycle in which the diseased is eventually lead from one complication to another requiring new and more medical attention that ends with a life of hospitalizations and exorbitant medical expenses.
So does this mean that modern medicine should be condemned and abandoned altogether? In all true fairness the answer is no it should not be condemned nor abandoned altogether. It's strength and use lies in handling emergency cases where symptoms need to be treated and subdued quickly in order to stabilise the patient from fatality. Resuscitation of lives lost in extreme situations, diagnosing remote health complications and saving accident cases by using modern medical equipments are feats that can only be accomplished under its realm. Therefore the most appropriate analogy would be that unless an individual's condition is one of life and death or which requires the use of modern medical equipments, all other health complications is best solved by Ayurveda.
Most common diseases like diabetes, hypertension, rheumatism, arthritis, gastritis, dermatitis, migraine, insomnia, cardiac and respiratory illnesses, slip disc and other backbone related problems, depression and even drug addiction to name a few can be safely and effectively treated by Ayurveda. It would be the sanest choice since Ayurveda cures the root of the disease, it is natural and therefore free from side effects, it is radiation free, it is comparatively less expensive and it ultimately promotes a lifestyle that aims at wholesome health for the mind, body and soul.
